Took delivery of a new Gladiator Mojave out of state two weeks ago and on the way home I noticed the steering wheel was offset 4-6 degrees from center. Scheduled a service appointment with my local dealer to have it checked out and got a call today from the service advisor that they discovered the vehicle looks to have been damaged in transit and that it possibly fell off the truck. There is also a cut on the center console leather, that they said was likely when the plastic was cut off at the original dealer.

My local dealer indicated they were going to escalate the issue, but I wanted to check with the knowledgeable members here and seek your advice.

Looks like you have help from a good dealership. Did you call the dealership that sold you the vehicle?

If it indeed fell off a truck upon delivery, I would not buy it.

In hindsight, you are obligated to do your due diligence to ensure the vehicle is what you agreed to purchase. A offset steering wheel would have threw a red flag.

Depending on the nature of the "drop", could have damaged the frame. Make sure your dealer checks it thoroughly. I worked for a dealer way back when and they were unloading an Oldsmobile Tornado off the truck and it got dropped when a ramp failed with the car on it. The dealer sold it to someone. That car was in and out of the Service Department with problems all the time. Primarily, electrical issues. Just make sure they check your Jeep over thoroughly.

That sucks.

Be interesting if the selling dealer steps up on this. Integrity tends to be on a sliding scale the more time and distance one is away from them.

The alignment issue with the steering wheel didn't really become obvious until I was driving home on the interstate, I scheduled an appointment with my local dealer as soon as I got home.

The out of state selling dealer from whom I purchased the vehicle has agreed to pick it up Monday and drop off a loaner until it is sorted out. So far, they have been very professional and responsive. The GM of the dealership indicated the vehicle was a dealer trade and the damage likely occurred at the originating dealer, but expressed discontent for not catching it. Based on the local dealership's inspection; the camber and toe have been shifted left and cannot be corrected. The GM stated he believes the front axle and/or frame have been bent; based on the alignment not being correctable, undercarriage pictures and the local dealers assessment.

Wow, that's right, there is no camber adjustment on these trucks. Lucky for you they haven't simply said you must have done something after picking it up.

Not really. I found most jeeps off the line have an offset steering wheel. This could be my experience as I put bigger tires day one and that could change things !

What??? Um, not really. A brand new Jeep should not be sitting on a lot with a off-set steering wheel. Any buyer who test drives such would throw the flag. As simple as adjusting the drag link to get it back to center, it should not/will not leave the factory wrong. I'm sure someone will tell me they have seen it, but just like everything else on the internet, it is rare.

Putting bigger tires on it will not affect the centering of the steering wheel either.
