Nope, do you want me to link you all of the threads in here with owners that have had reliability issues with the diesel?
That's simply because that people bitch more than complement. It's just fact. Also first year of anything will have bugs needed worked out. The diesel was the only reason I ended up buying the JT. I would never buy a vehicle with such an underwhelming power plant that STILL has tons of issues(want me to link you all the problems people have reported on here with it???)

I would argue that an Internet forum where people seek help is likely an unreliable and bias source to sample data.

Even then, 88.6% or 163 out of 188 unverified voting members on this thread have verified 0 issues with their Ecodiesel. This is also an unreliable source as we don’t know if people 1) actually own the vehicle, 2) age and mileage 3) driving habits 4) fuel quality and 5) geographic demographics.

I have personally had 0 issues, but can recognize there are short comings, like towing in the summer time.

Either way, that is a very silly broad statement to make, especially with no first hand experience.

Man people get deep into stuff. My buying criteria. I want to take the top and doors off (Jeep has that covered), I still need somewhat of a truck for towing light loads and hauling kayak, oh Jeep Gladiator, Bada Bing done. 3.6, 2.4, V8, V6 didn't give a damn (Although A V8 would have been nice)

That's no article. That's a spec sheet readout!
Yup, total garbage. Don’t waste your click, it’s some intern hack who hasn’t even driven them. That’s everything I’ve seen from that site, clickbait BS website.

Don’t pay any mind to motorbiscuit. They’re garbage in and out. In fact if they disappeared all together they would be none the less missed like the lost macaroni pieces, Cheerios or animal fur clumps living under your kitchen stove…
I'll give Motorbiscuit to my 7 year old. He'll manage to make them disappear within 10 minutes. And sure enough, it will be in some remote linted Cherrios section of the house.

If one thinks Motorbiscuit is actual automotive journalism, then you road the short bus to school.

They eat CP4s for breakfast, but hey at least they're working on a fix.

Yeah, the first year issues are not a thing for the ecodiesel Gladiator... it was in the wrangler for a year or two prior to the gladiator. Unless you’re talking about the gen3 aspect of it. Even then, mine derated doing the speed limit between Amarillo and Lubbock… not towing. The engine has problems. And it has cooling and suspension needs the gladiator isn’t well positioned to support.

sigh.... ?

I'm just about to buy a New Tacoma and I got this "Most Popular Topic" email in my inbox. I'm not angry or trying to troll, just want to give an honest perspective from someone that is still pretty sad and upset about their Gladiator experience. I just had to get rid of my brand new Gladiator last month. Within days of driving it off the lot, the engine started misfiring. It took two months of constant trips to the dealer before Jeep decided to replace the engine, a month later I got it back with new issues to include coolant leaks. Without exaggeration, the Gladiator was in the shop for more than 50% of my ownership time, about half of the 2000 miles was technician test drives. I was paying New Gladiator Overland payments on an old base model Renegade loaner. I actually need a truck, and one that can reliably drive from A to B so I had to move on.

I think that Gladiators are cool... much cooler than the Tacoma I'm about to buy. I wish I could have owned a Gladiator but I guess I was just one of the unlucky ones (there seem to be plenty more.)

So sure, in that article the Gladiator wins on some specs. But when it comes to safely and reliably driving down the road, Tacoma wins.

Garbage article but I do find the banter in here comical.

I just took 10 minutes to look through the first few pages of tacomaworld forum on gen3 tacomas and it looks a lot like any automotive forum. Issues with frame rust, flickering lights, engine knocks, CELs after driving off the dealership lot etc.

It’s like trying to study how healthy humans are by standing at the morgue all day…

Unless you’re from the shire, I’m curious to hear how roomy and comfortable your think the taco is.

I’m not all “ooh rah Gladiator” or anything like that, but I’d go back to a Subaru Outback before I’d buy a Tacoma.

That and Toyota is playing some serious f**k f**k games with their out the door pricing these days. Curious to hear what they bend you over for. I.e. They got my brother for ~$2,000 for a paint protection warranty. ?

In all seriousness though…hopefully your next ride is more reliable than the previous one.

I have owned Toyota trucks since the 80's & loved them all even my 2017 Tacoma ORDC except for the transmission. It sucked as it shifted all the time @ the wrong time it always seamed in the wrong gear. I ended up with a 2019 ORDC premium due to my dealer crashing my 2017. My 19 had all the safety features, BUT the same transmission with terrible shifting points, even with all the updates. my JT has a fun factor that the Tacomas couldn't come close to, for me anyway. that's my story & I'm sticking to it. oh yes gas milage on the Tacoma 19.2. JT 21.4 same driving as I still work 2 days a week. I'm 68 years young but don't drive like it, I put them down the road. I suppose I should thank the Tacoma Engineers as I would have never tried the Gladiator if the transmissions weren't ill shifting.
