At my 15K service the dealer added a flyer with my paperwork that included a bunch of service recommendations for the next (20K) service. It had a bunch of stuff on it including a transmission fluid flush and other assorted stuff that totaled to a whopping $1000 plus bucks.

WTF? Is this just stealership shenanigans or are these actual manufacturer recommended services? I’m suspecting the former…

Do you trust your dealership? Here's what the manual says...

Yea wow that's crazy. You may want to change the axle or transfer case fluid, certainly not transmission fluid. Though there are differing thoughts on when to change that, it's certainly not at 20k miles

As posted RTM for what is needed for each service interval. The engineers at Jeep know way more than your stealership.

Ask your Dealer if they have read the service recommendations for the Gladiator. According to the owner's manual, the transmission doesn't require any maintenance.

But, do you trust JEEP and the no maintenance or do you trust the actual manufacturer and 60,000 mile flush, fluid change, filter change?

Just rolled 20k miles, I changed the oil, rotated the tires, will also change the rear diff fluid this weekend as a recent thread showed the oil to be pretty dirty from a lot less mileage.

I believe the transmission filter and fluid should be changed at least every 50k miles. I was pointing out that the dealer recommended a service at 20k miles that Jeep says never needs done.

The reality is that modern vehicles need only

1) inspections (belts, hoses, brakes, CV Boots, suspension components, differentials and axles for leaks). Once the car is already in the air the inspection should take 15 minutes. More if they need to remove the wheels for a brake pad wear inspection.
2) oil and filter changes.
3) cabin air and induction air filters
4) timing belt if necessary
5) tire rotation

And that is about it. I'm sure I missed something.

90% of what used to be on a "tune up" doesn't exist anymore.

This is purely the dealer trying to increase their profits.

I write this as someone who has worked as both a technician and as a service writer at a car dealer.

Follow the manuals recommended service intervals while under warranty. You may not like it, but it’s the requirement for a valid warranty. At least in Canada it is. You Americans have that funky clause which I can’t remember the name of, where if a mod and such does not directly relate to a repair it may require, that a warranty repair can not be denied. I like that. Somebody help me with that act or whatever it was, it will drive me nuts trying to remember it.?

Totally agree. 20K is IMHO still break in period. 50K , let’s consider what that 50k equals. Highway? Off-road? Very different scenarios.
