I've considering switching to Amsoil coolant because it already has the water wetter in the formula.
Please disregard what I said earlier. I called the Amsoil Technical Department yesterday to verify. They said the Dominator Boost (water wetter) still has to be added to their coolant.

Living in MN I was always under the impression that "super coolants" were a no-go in winter climates. Is that not true? I guess I've never actually looked into them because of that impression.

As long as you have sufficient antifreeze/coolant you can add super coolant without issue. Obviously you can't run straight water and super coolant but I don't think anyone should regardless of climate as corrosion and wear resistance are also benefits of antifreeze coolants.

No, they actually will help with engine warmup in cold weather. Here's what Amsoil advertises for their Dominator Coolant Boost:

FASTER ENGINE WARM UP
  • Proprietary tiered-surfactant technology helps engines warm up an average of 54% faster.
  • Helps the defroster begin working sooner and the cabin warm more quickly in passenger vehicles on cold days for maximum comfort.

They don't offer freeze protection, so you still need an antifreeze

Curious what brand everyone is going with? I'm contemplating trying this as well as the S&B scoups (without the cold air kit).

I’m using FleetGuard OAT coolant from Cummins and Red Line Water Wetter. I’ve seen a big drop in engine temps already. I’m sold.

I've been running the Amsoil Dominator Coolant Boost.

REDUCES ENGINE TEMPS
  • Unlike other products, DOMINATOR Coolant Boost uses three surfactants, each designed to operate in a different temperature range, to increase liquid-to-metal contact.
  • Closer contact with metal parts increases the coolant’s efficiency in transferring heat away from hot engine parts and out through the radiator and fan.
  • Reduces engine temperature up to 25°F (13.8°C) for maximum efficiency.
FIGHTS DAMAGING CORROSION
  • Delivers outstanding corrosion protection for maximum cooling-system performance and life.
  • In industry testing, limited corrosion on the six metals most commonly found in cooling systems (copper, solder, brass, steel, cast iron and cast aluminum).
  • Excellent protection in racing applications using straight-water coolant.
FASTER ENGINE WARM UP
  • Proprietary tiered-surfactant technology helps engines warm up an average of 54% faster.
  • Helps the defroster begin working sooner and the cabin warm more quickly in passenger vehicles on cold days for maximum comfort.
