Same V6 in my daughter's 2022 Grand Cherokee with 20k miles has developed a tick in bank 1. As expected, the dealer wants it to get worse before they start and warranty work.

It's on record as being reported and will likely be back in the next 3-6 months for repairs.

And yet there are TSBs for that sound and repair procedures for 2022, warranty and so on.
Do they not read the bulletins?

The ZF 8-speed is a fantastic partner for the engine. The feel and usability are a product of the engine, transmission, and differential gearing. With 4.10’s and the wide ratio spread it shifts seamlessly between low rpm cruise and winding up for power as required. I’ve never liked an automatic prior to this one and I think it’s a great package.

I personally would stick with the Pentastar for its durability, longevity, and reliability, however, the Hurricane I6 would be just right for this thing, IMO. It should be light weight, pull like a 392 from idle through redline, and deliver superior fuel economy, to boot.

I was a little surprised they didn´t throw a 392 in these at least for a limited run, though.

If the Gladiator sticks around, I would bet we´ll see a Hurricane option somewhere down the road.

I wonder if the 4xe version will use the 3.6 or if they will put the 4 cylinder with it, as in the Wrangler?

Just saying that hurricane is going to be precious to maintain. The power might be fun and the exhaust note sweeter but twin turbos and a very complicated cooling system are going to cost you in the long run. The 3.6 in the least is as simple a power train as can be had presently which to my mind fits the form and function of the truck.

I doubt more than a handful of our Pentastars will reach 250k miles. But as a Gladiator engine, it does the job and at this point its as perfected as it will get.

Nice thing is that there are bound to be good quality used motors available for a reasonable price.

You think the 3.6 is noisy? IMO, the 4.0 blow it away with truck-like valve train sounds.
My 3.6s have always been really quiet compared to any 4.0 I've had.
Our 3.6s have idled so smooth both my wife and I have actually gotten out, or started to get out, not realizing the engine was still running. The Grand Cherokee engine bay is of course pretty well insulated so it's even more quiet with those.
My son even got out of my JT last summer, not realizing it was still running (luckily it had auto-park!)
I don't consider the 3.6 to be noisy at all - not compared to many other engines I've had, and especially the 4.0s I've owned and still own. A friend even commented "the 4.0 sounds like a true truck engine" (he dropped one into a 80 Concord he had he loved the engines so much for low end grunt and being bullet-proof - not not quiet)

Thermostatically controlled clutch type mechanical fan. Move a whale of a lot of air.
But the loudest part for me is the valve train. it's a truck engine.

I know there are plenty of examples to refute me, but long stroke I-6 it what I think of when it comes to “truck engines.”

Only our second Jeep. First JLU had the 2L turbo. Prefer the Pentastar in our JLUR.

90K so far pretty much trouble free. 13 JK was trouble free for 135K hurricane dropped a tree on it and killed it.

I'm fine with the Pentastat V6. I've had it in numerous vehicles over the years: 2012 JKUR, 2013 JKR, 2014 JKU Sahara, 2015 JKU Sahara, 2018 JLU Sahara, and now this 2023 JTR. It's never given me any issues; it only keeps getting quieter and smoother.

The Pentastar is the best Chrysler engine since the Slant Six. Gear it correctly and use it as intended and it has no gas engine peer.

No. We went 'round and 'round over a fuel gauge accuracy problem on my Jeep, dealer and @JeepCares both, before someone snapped to the TSB that cured the problem.
