[OldFuddy-Duddy]Doing a burnout w/ one tire on the pavement & the other halfway on pavement half in the gravel is a great way to break an axle.[/OldFuddy-Duddy]

I think they’re both on the pavement. Good news is that’s a demo haha

Not when it started. The rear end drift got the right side in the gravel AFTER both rears were already spinning. What is the mechanism of damage to break an axle that puts any more stress than heavy off road?

It's the same as sudden wheel loading off road.

That tire keeps free spinning then hits the pavement again and grabs traction. The inertia has to go somewhere and often that's a broken driveshaft, ujoint, spider gears, or axle shaft. Spinning a wheel wildly then slamming it on the ground with power still applied is a sure fire way to find the weak point in a drive line.
