I'm pretty sure he's referring to the ones who don't need it but think they gotta have it just because. All of them aren't bad
Like the guy who has 100,000 miles on one?

Did somebody actually say its a solid axle thing? Clearly they have no idea what they're talking about and have something to prove in the machismo department. I have had three TJ's and two YJ's and only the YJ could even compare in poor steering feel to the gladiator.

Also, to whomever said that - look up a little company called Land Rover. They did luxury solid axle cars for years and you can't move that steering wheel a centimeter in either direction without actually, you know, turning the tires.

Every time I am in the left lane on my JT my steering wheel is fixed at 1pm just to keep the thing going straight. Incredibly bad.

I just got called from FCA (Jeep Premium Care) and they told me that my part would be arriving in a week. Apparently, not all orders were cancelled. My dealership told me mine was cancelled, but FCA said that was a generic notice to all dealerships, my last part would be there in a week. The current TSBs are being expedited/prioritized and at least mine will be completed. They even followed up with an email
Same here. Brandon at FCA PCC is awesome. My install is scheduled for tomorrow morning.

After reading some of the responses on here, I realize how bad my steering is. I had a 2012 JKU Rubi with a 2.5" lift and 35's that had some wandering, but just attributed it to the tires and everyone saying "...it's a Jeep". After looking at my steering on the dash and doing some "hoakie" measuring, I would say I am about 1.75 to 2 inches out. I can crank the wheel that distance before I see any type of registering on the angle in the display. We'll see how tomorrow works out...I'm expecting to see all my steering issues go away... or at least I'm hoping! :)

Well, the dates for my steering gear have been given to me and than not met/moved 5 separate times now ... I just got off of the phone with my dealer and was told that the most recent "order" was cancelled by FCA ... I demanded that he give me more information ...

He read to me the text of some corporate directive that basically said the following:

"All orders for TSB xxxxxxx for Jeep Gladiator steering gears have been cancelled. A new ordering process will be announced based on VIN. This is being done to ensure the highest level of customer service ... "

Yeah right ...

So if anyone "THINKS" that they have a steering gear coming, guess what ... Ya don't ...

Please call and complain LOUDLY as Ill be doing ...

These people are building and delivering NEW 2021 models WITH THE NEW STEERING GEARS that they OBVIOUSLY HAVE IN STOCK while they collect monthly payments from all of us customers whose MONEY THEY ALREADY HAVE ...

Totally shameless corporate BS ...

We are now dangerously close to lemon law or other legal territory ...

And forget Jeep Cares ... They are just in the middle of this as well .. Ive talked to them at length about this ... They CAN DO NOTHING and privately agree with us while towing the company line WHATEVER THAT IS ...

Maybe a little communication would help as opposed to the stealth tight lipped silence. It would go a long way FCA !!!

Everyone can deal with reality ... But stringing people along is just bad policy ...
A JL perspective here. I’ve been waiting 3 months after the dealer determined I need the box.

What you’re bitchin’ about, actualLy could be a positive change in allocation policy. The current policy of one box per dealership every 3 weeks is a horrendous policy. This makes is super easy for someone in an unpopulated area with a tiny dealership to get a box. Whereas people in crowded areas get stuck in a super long queue. Moving to a verified vin policy of requiring the vin when the order is placed will keep dealers for ordering extra stock (what FCA says they’re trying to prevent) and turn this into a first come first serve policy. That’s the hope at least ... not sure exactly their intent given your description.

regardless, I share your frustration that you know damn well those new trucks aren’t coming off the assembly line any slower for lack of this part and it’s those that have already written the check that are feeling the brunt of the shortage.

Also, good luck trying to claim a lemon. I tried that and they denied me.

Here is the thing ... FCA told me (5 times) a specific date and each time that date came and went ...

Now I don't want to be a pessimist so I will assume that they are working to improve this and that things have changed ...

My installation is Wednesday 11/25. The first thing Ill do is have them SHOW ME the part so I can see it with my OWN EYES since last time 2 or 3 people didn't check and then put the wrong part in ...

Next, Ill go over my expectations:

1) Install the right part (they didn't last time)
2) Verify that my steering wheel isn't cocked 20 degrees to the right when done (It was last time)
3) Verify my power steering fluid level. (It was left LOW last time) ...

Not all of these are FCA issues ... In fact most are bad DEALER issues ...

In any event, there are 4 steps to the TSB. FCA got 1 wrong and my dealer got 2 of the others wrong ...

So, Ill have to perform the QA side of things myself it seems ...

All this being said, it is great that people are getting dates. For me the dates have not meant much and I sincerely hope that they do for you ... If FCA has raised the bar on this then great ... It is about time and definitely welcome to see it happening ...
Damn I will have to make sure to look over it if/when I get an install date.... So lucky my JT isn't my only car right now. This thing is absolute shit over 60 when it comes to the steering right now.

Follow me here:

They are making 2021 trucks correct ? Those all have the steering box that we need correct ?

So, the boxes are IN STOCK ... But the do not allocate to past customers whose money they already have and then tell the public that there is a problem with the stock ...

There is not a stock problem ... There is an allocation problem ...

And honestly none of this matters nearly as much as the run around that they are giving people ... Just give us the real story and most people (including me) would be tolerant and consider the state of things ..

Instead they give new dates over and over, then miss those dates, then the story changes ... Why do this ? You are probably 100% correct about the reasons ... So, why not just say it as opposed to what they are doing ... It is very irritating to people ...

Any freshman PR person would know that ...
I'm not going to read through twelve pages so I apologize if it's already been said by someone else, but the reason that production takes precedence over repairs is because there's an entire assembly line depending on that steering box.

That is a GREAT use for the tools built in to the Jeep!! I never thought of that!!

Thanks, that's a killer use of the app.

There is an ignore feature in the forum software. First time I used it was that person.

Ya know, I don't give a ripped sh!t what I've driven in my life...Jeep, Ford, Dodge, whatever. If it ain't right, and a fix comes out that will make it right, I don't care where I heard it from. It should be fixed!!

I appreciate the hell out of the information I get from this forum. But I don't appreciate folks looking down their nose at others that may or may not have "driven a solid axle rig" in their life. Rant over.

THIS ^^^

Well done sir !!!

Ok, naysayers and "its a solid axle, get used to it trolls", please explain while wagging your finger at everyone that this makes sense ...

Looks like it would be a treat on a downhill mountain road ...

It is good news that its all in everyone's heads though ... When we are airborne headed for certain death at least we will know that it was just "a jeep thing", and not related to any manufacturing issue ...

Man that thing is worse than mine was ... WOW.

Obviously not a problem though ... Its obviously all in your head ...

This morning I dropped my Jeep off to have the input seal replaced (another Easter Egg there :)), and when I dropped it off, the service advisor said that my steering box showed up! This is further indication that FCA is keeping everyone in the dark as far as ETAs and availability. So not only was my order not cancelled as OP indicated, but JeepCares had zero visiblity to the part, and neither did the service advisor - until it showed up.

YES

Exactly what happened with me ... I was told by several sources that the part was cancelled. Not coming ... etc etc etc ...

And it showed up which was a surprise to everyone ...

So, as you have indicated here. JeepCares, and my Dealer parts department had no idea that it was coming and actually believed that it was not coming and that they were supposed to wait to hear something ...

This result is great ... I'm happy to have my part and Ill be happier to have it installed tomorrow ...

I would have been happy all along with some communication ... But it seems that they don't really even communicate internally with their own people who are on the front lines ... So, I guess I am not surprised that I've been in the dark ...

I passed by my dealer today and inquired about the tsb.

1. They have to diagnose my Jeep first
2. No parts available until next year.

It kind of defeats the purpose of having them diagnose the Jeep with no available parts to fix.

My Jeep drives straight, no play so I’ll wait it out until i notice significant changes.

Brought mine in back on October 29th and handed them a printed copy of the TSB, the tech looked it over and said I qualify so they did the PCM update (I may be crazy, but feels like that made it worse) and ordered the steering gear. Originally they said the ETA was November 7th, that came and went and I emailed and they said December 7th. They just called today and said the part came in. Can't wait to get it done and see the improvement! Also have a rubicon suspension sitting in my garage that I've been waiting to install since I didn't want them to use that as an excuse not to do the TSB.
