Last month in Utah on I70, 80 mph speed limit. 105F temp. Cruise control on, set for 82 mph. Not towing, but loaded down with camping stuff. Water temp was around 215F. Oil temp was around 225F. Come to a steep hill. The water temp would go to around 220F, and oil to around 235F.

I've had my quad and camp gear in the bed (600lbs give or take) and drive to flagstaff for Tucson in early September and I also drove to the dunes... Pretty warm each time and temp was good.

I know a lot of diesel guys have tinkered with different things to help the Temps but in reality, too much engine in a small space with inadequate cooling. That's why the towing is less than you expect from a diesel.

Run 37s and drive to Pinetop and back to the valley frequently in the summer. Never had any issues with derating or anything like that. Runs perfect. Now if I was towing, that might be a different story...?

I am thinking of cancelling my gas order and placing a new order for an ecodisel. Does anyone in AZ own an ecodiesel? Does it have any cooling problems during the summer months under normal driving (not towing)? I am not asking about towing anything because I have nothing to tow. I am only asking if your ecodiesel overheats during the hot summer months during regular driving in arizona and I am also curious if it overheats while driving up the steep grades to Flagstaff (again, not towing anything) during the summer months (July-September).
I've read through 33 posts and I didn't see you mention if you intend to install a lift and/or larger tires?

This would certainly change the dynamic of being worried about derating.

Although I don't live in Arizona, I do have 37" tires on a 2" Mopar lift and that certainly does make it harder for the EcoD to push along.

With that said, I have not derated during normal driving in over 24k miles ... which includes driving up the Eisenhower Pass of I-70 at 85F ambient at 12,000' altitude (not towing).

I watch all my temps like a hawk using OBD Fusion app on my iPhone so I always know my EGT, coolant, oil, DPF, etc temps. Yes the oil temps definitely climb when you stick your foot in the skinny pedal going up long inclines, but that is to be expected especially when you're spinning a turbo with exhaust gas that can reach 1,500F.

I daily drive my EcoD which includes plenty of city driving, so I probably have more Active Regens that others that drive more highway. But until that becomes an issue ...

I would recommend this powerplant until cows come home!

IF you want it to derate, find long uphill grades and try to hold 75 to 80 mph with the AC on. Best test case is I-17 black canyon city to just past camp verde. Run it hard through that section holding high speeds and you will get oil temps of +255 which will lead to derates.

I plan to run a 3.5" lift on 38s. Probably an RK lift and some Fox shocks.

I derated this weekend coming back from Bartlett Lake pulling my 5,300 pound trailer and boat. Oil temp as 264.

Well, I cancelled my gas order back in March and I currently have a 2022 Gobi JTRD on order and it is due to be delivered in late August / early September. I am so excited and am praying I don't have any reliability issues. I currently don't have anything to tow and I will keep my build minimalist when it comes to weight and looks (no rack or RTT for me - I like a clean minimalist look) so I don't anticipate having any issues.
I live in Vegas, daily drive and I’m at 13,000 miles since October if 2021.

Derating shouldn’t be an issue unless you plan to move heavy loads in the heat.

Jesus Christ guys. I was kidding. I even included the "cry laughing" emoji.
Edit: okay, I'll explain the intended vehicle for the humor. The diesel Jeep Gladiator appears to have overheating problems, which can be pretty extreme, as reported above at 264F. A common tactic to deploy humor is exaggeration. In the present instance, I was exaggerating the heat of the engine, by implying that it was hot enough to melt steel.
We can agree that it wasn't very funny, but how did you think I was serious?
