I was thinking of a dash cam for my new Gladiator sport. I was hoping for something small. Maybe fits behind rear view mirror. Sometimes I think it would be great to have a small camera in the grill up front. But that might be hard to wire in. Any ideas?

Look at black vue cameras. They don't have screens so they are much smaller than most of them out there. Not sure that I would mount a dash cam given the fold down windshield though. If you have the big ACC box behind the mirror you might not be able to fit anything there anyway.

I imagine wiring a camera in the grille would be easier than finding one rated for external use like that.

You could just easily disconnect the power wire and fold down the windshield with the camera attached. Putting a camera in the grill would kinda defeat the purpose because you wouldn't get the full field of vision like you would if it was mounted on the windshield.

junsun Mirror Dash Cam Front and Rear, 10 Inch Touch Screen Front 1080P Rear View 1080P Dual Lens 170 Degrees Wide Angle with Backup Camera G-Sensor Parking Monitor Night Vision https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KWV114Y/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xpqEDb8P5T36Z

This is what I used in my JKRHR and I mounted the rear camera in the spare wheel.

I bought one just like it to install in the Gladiator, but I am going to use the rear camera in the front grille.

Fantastic value, very very good imagery, takes up to 64gb micro SD. The camera, hard wire kit and card will run about $150.

Is that a real mirror, or is it a screen that shows a feed from the rear camera to act like a mirror?

I’m guessing it wouldn’t work with the “box” from the safety group if it were mounted in place of the factory mirror, since the camera appears to be fixed directly behind the mirror/display.

I use a Garmin 55 in my LE. Have it mounted below the Adaptive Cruise Control box and wired to an aux switch. Works great. I have used Roav cameras also in my JK and Harley. They work fine too.

It mounts over the existing mirror using two silicone rubber bands, and does so very securely(2 spares included), and what would be the forward looking camera extends out of the side of it. That camera can be aimed. When installed it is not at all noticeable and is very discrete.

The unit records both front and rear continuously when powered up, to select front or rear image you swipe the screen left or right, and you can pan the image up or down by swiping up or down.

When it is not powered up it functions exactly like a rear view mirror and the mirror quality is very clear with no distortion

I can't say enough good things about this thing. For the money or several times the money I just don't think you can do better.

Don't know too much about the competition but I run Thinkware cameras in both of my cars and have really liked them. The quality of picture for the price of camera is pretty great. I definitely plan on getting one for my gladiator! (not sure of the model yet)

That looks pretty great. Just to be clear you can toggle from camera to mirror easily?

Thanks for the info. So, you are putting a camera in the grill. I like that idea. Can you use that for parking? Can you reply with a photo when you have finished install? Thanks! Dennis

Toggling from camera to mirror would be a matter of just turning it off.

Otherwise to select between what would be the front and rear camera image you would swipe left or right.

In light of the fact you have a rear facing camera that displays in the media center the rear view is largely rendered meaningless.

But if you really want to use it as a mirror just turn it off.

Blackvue 4k model. Expensive but seems legit. Ive never had one and it was easy to get set up and is clear as day
