But then too bad Centurion is already taken. Spartan sounds cool until you connect the dots and realize it's the sport with even less options for the hard bitten post apocalyptic jeep feeling.

Should we hold out for the legatus Augusti pro praetore package? like the LE but will all the mopar catalog swag included?

From a marketing standpoint, Scrambler is a terrible name. Gladiator gives them much more to work with.

Seems like Gladiator fits like a glove.
No, I was commenting almost a year ago that I was hoping they would NOT call it a Scrambler. In any case, I'll likely just call it a JT... considering getting a Honcho decal for the hood.

Jeep Gladiator Anyone wish it was called Scrambler? 61vZtH-Aj4L._SX425_

Only the hood though, not that crazy whole side decal. Man, the early 80s were a time for UGLY aesthetics.

Yes, the scrambler was more like a midsized truck. The original gladiator was a full sized beast.
My argument here was that it was a Jeep with a bed. It wasn't a truck.

Old school knee jerk. I see now it was lovingly referred to as a 2 door... My bad!

@Bobs85Reny , this is sweet.
I was ready to pull the trigger on the J8 and called AEV, they said I had to go thru my dealer in Phoenix/ . A trip down there was a waste of time and gas. I don't think they were really interested in selling them. I think AEV thought the dealers would make the sale and the guy who was the AEV J8 Rep at the Phoenix dealer knew nothing about it nor did he really care.

I think that is why it fell flat on its face, dealers did not push it...

Yep, old Hank, he and I played together as kids. They lived in the rent house behind ours and I had a sandbox, so his mom would come over and her and my mom would sit there and drink Iced Lemonade while we played in the back yard...

The J8 as anything other than a mil-spec was a huge botch job. I get it that you couldn’t offer it for general sale, it not being “ designed” for public roads in North America; no crash testing and what not but it was still derived from the JKU body. Had they made more of an issue about it they could have sold some in the same way they offered that somewhat strange but cool pickup conversion package. AEV I am sure would have loved to build them as part of a factory special project not unlike the grand national and Choo choo SS El Caminos etc.

If Ford and Chevy can offer off highway only track cars over the dealer counter, Jeep should have had no issues doing the same but it’s the classic Jeep problem, Jeep says they listen and they live to hear our ideas but then when push comes to shove they fail to follow through claiming the market segment and total sales would be too low to justify costs. Yet somehow GM found a way to offer hand assembled spec drag rolling chassis off the same line that builds their factory Camaro and Corvette chassis.

Imagine a world where you could spec order a J8 chassis and body fitted with Dana 60’s and in the box is a 5.7L mated to trans and transfer case with the ECM/PCMs all waiting to be bolted together. Mopar already offers the engines and tremec right out of the catalog, The axles are catalog spec as well. Jeeps body builder already makes the tubs and the 4:1 transfer case is a stock item.

The Gladiator is a new 4 door scrambler. Its a wrangler with a truck bed. The engineers even admitted it but chose Gladiator cause its sounds more marketable
