At $495, is Gorilla Glass still worth the price?

This is my first Gladiator/Wrangler type vehicle with a flat windshield. I heard about how Wranglers go through windshields at a good clip so thought it was a good thing when my Gladiator came with GG.

’til 3 months later when I was sitting in traffic and watching my windshield crack - no stone chip, just a crack - growing in real time… yay. They replaced it free of charge thankfully, just picked it up last Thursday, but it’s a brand new truck. Glass shouldn’t do that.

Give your insurance agent a call. “Unlimited“ glass coverage for something like $2 a month On policy. Full OEM glass. All glass is covered.

In AZ, it’s the only way to roll. They come to us and replace.

Worth the phone call. GG not necessary.

More than already paid for itself with the # of times we’ve used it.

Naysayers...
After my third windshield cracked, I went with the HGP Gorilla Glass windshield. It was $600, and installation would've been another $170, so $495 is still a good deal.
And this windshield has a chip in it. Had it been a, "normal," windshield, I'd be putting in my 4th one now.

Agreed. Insurance is my preferred way to "solve" this problem. My glass deductible is part of my standard deductible, but it was literally not that much more expensive to pay for a $50 deductible on my auto policy. Now if my window chips, or if there's an accident, I know my max out of pocket is just $50.

I can live with that.

First small rock that struck mine left a small ding, a day later it was cracked all the way across.

My gorilla Glass is cracked. It only had 2700 miles on it when it got dinged. Is it worth the extra coins? Depends on what makes you all warm and fuzzy inside. On a side note the crack hasn't gotten any bigger. It is still just a chip and now has 11k on it. I like gorilla glass so I guess it tickles whatever that fancy is that makes me want it. YMMV. ???
Why not fix it?

So, I called my agent who is with farmers and I’m already at the lowest comprehensive police of $100 for replacement and free chip repairs. I could go to cash value with no deductible, but he said they’d soak me. He had mentioned that they really don’t “ding ya” much for a glass claim, but I suppose if you had enough it could have consequences. Still, I’d prefer to keep my claims off the books as much as possible.

The Gorilla Glass does come with a ’caveat’ carved out 2yr warranty, but I’m rarely scarred of a fight. So, maybe that’s something.

My sales mgr is off today and we just submitted yesterday, so I’ll see if he can pull it off tomorrow, but I’m not going to fret much as it‘s probably a winning solution either way.

i do appreciate everyon’s $.02’s!

No freaking way. Not at $500.

At $95 this past summer, yes.

At $195 when I ordered my Gladiator in October - Yes.

At $500 no freaking way. There is no warranty or guarantee with factory installed GG. Unlike when its purchased as a molar accessory, then you get a 2 year breakage warranty.

The 2 year warranty is only mentioned in Mopar accessory documents. Though many people have managed to get it covered by ignorant dealers. Which is great. But its not actually there.

My experience with GG.

windshield replaced in 12’JK COD, ~5 months before trade in, no significant cracks or impacts, I did notice several dings to the ‘soda’ layer, but nothing grew to a significant level.
My understanding of the composition is that the GG is composed similar to any other windscreen, and that the GG layer is inboards of a soda glass layer. This layer is still susceptible to dings/knicks.
Got JTRD 7/21, incurred ding ~12/21,over time crack developed across entire windshield, replaced with GG in 2/22, with $0 deductible, So far so good. That being said I have no expectations of the GG being flawless. I try no to follow to closely to others and understand it is what it is.

I dunno, two big dings in factory glass in my first 8K miles, swapped in HGP Gorilla Glass, 18K later not a scratch. I think the HGP glass is worth it, I've no interest in the Mopar glass at this point.

I got GG installed last week through my insurance for free. I‘ll report back after it takes a couple dings.
