2021 max tow with 2221 miles. 35's and a stinger bumper is all that i have done. I used jscan to program my tires.

Twice now Ive been under full throttle and the Jeep will not shift to the next gear nor will it downshift.... and will just hang at the high rpms.

Yesterday the car idled for about 15 minutes, it was around 40 degrees outside. I went to accelerate into traffic, full load acceleration, and it hung at 6k rpms in second gear just SCREAMING AT ME. I left off the throttle and it still would not shift up or down and was just idling down like I was driving a manual. Thankfully I was coming to my turn regardless and once i slowed down to stop it shifted to first. It shifted fine the remainder of the drive home (the whole 8 miles). I moved the shifter into manual mode and right back into D and it still would not shift out of second. I wish I had bumped it up while in manual to see if i could force it to shift up.

I had a previous experience of being full throttle going up hill and it did this in fourth gear, just hung and would not shift down or up. Once it did shift down (by slowing down) it was a hard shift but that was 1k miles ago and it never happened again.

I started paying attention to my trans temps after the fourth gear hang up and noticed that the only common denominators were full throttle acceleration and the trans temp was under 100 degrees F. Seems like my commute of 8 miles isnt enough time for the trans to get to operating temp and Im wondering if my issue isn't directly tied to that.

I was not towing anything, have not towed anything.

Curious if any other member has had a similar issue. I tried the search feature but I only see manual trans issues, maybe i picked the wrong search words.

I plan on bringing it up at my first LOF unless it gets worse by then.

I’ve had it happen a few times in 10k miles, but using off-road plus on trails in 4H. 2021 rubicon. Never figured out why, and it’s been a few isolated incidents. Let me know if you figure it out. I will as well if I do.

I have had a similar situation with my 2021 Willys. Sometimes hangs a long time in gear before shifting into the next. Seems to always want to be shifted down one gear than it normally should for a given speed. Mainly happens when the temps are below 40 degrees.

At about 2500 miles now and seems to be less frequent as time goes by. Hoping it is just normal valve body wear in and the adaptive learning catching up to my driving habits.

I have notice delayed upshifts sometimes on mine as well. currently at 38000 miles. Only happens when cold, starting off about 35 degrees or less ambient and traveling upgrade on 55mph two lane until trans above 140 degrees. I suspect it may be a shift map initiated under certain trans temp/ engine load conditions. Very consistent on a particular stretch of road.

Perhaps someone familiar with the programming can chime in.

Have you guys had any resolution to your mysteries? I just had a new valve body ordered to try to fix my issue that is similar to yours. It's on back order, pretty much till spring. At that time, I wont be driving in sub 20° temps. So, I'm certain it will fix my problem till next winter:facepalm:

still no fix, but i have noticed my hang ups, dont last as long in duration. either the mapping is better or the jeep remembers me putting it in manual and forcing the shift. Thats the only work around i have found and its rare i have to do that, but when i do it sucks.

My shift issues seem to only be when the trans is cold. by the time i get to work, my trans temp is usually around 100-110 degrees.

still under 3k miles.

Cold is definitely the problem. Mine only does it after sitting at work in teen° all day. The expressway is only a half mile away, so no time to heat up the trans before merging on with the crazies. They do not like it when I'm putzin along at 50-60mph because JT wont upshift.

i throw it in manual mode and bump it to the next gear. the shift is never abrupt, i just hate having to do it.

also, the '+' and '-' (plus and minus signs) are not in the right locations IMO. i dont instinctively want to pull the shifter towards me or down, to shift up into a higher gear. that to me is backwards.

My 2021 Sport S has 35" tires and about 21000 miles. Mine started doing this after the tire install, so I re-flashed it several times but it still happens. Generally its at higher speeds or when towing. The truck wants to stay in 5th or 6th gear with rpms at 3500. The temperature doesn't seem to effect mine. I do notice that sometimes after I turn the truck off and restart it, it shifts better. I was thinking that maybe a reggae to 456 may help, but now Im not so sure.

Update;
Valve body replaced, no resolution to the problem. Next, a new transmission will be ordered.

Common problem among Chrysler transmissions since around 2000. Tranny won't up shift until the fluid temp is up in cold weather. My 2008 Power Wagon will do it at times. Never found a cure. It's something in the programing.

I just purchased a jeep gladiator and I’m having the same problem 3,500 miles on it now. Does anybody know how to fix this? I don’t want to keep taking it to the dealer over and over. If I can help them that would be awesome.

Can tell you from Texas that this is not a cold trans or cold weather issue. Both my 3.6 gassers had this issue. Complained about it to the dealer a couple of times. They flashed everything the 1st time. Complained again and they said they opened a case. Never heard another word from them. Started manually shifting a lot more often to compensate.

Messed with the cruise control as well. Ever given it enough gas while in cruise to make it auto turn cruise off? Don't recommend it. It jumped down to 3rd gear while doing 70+. That was a bit scary.

Diesel doesn't do it. That was my fix!
