Back up camera differences?

I pulled the bed off my truck and ordered a used camera from eBay (the black one) because I wanted to sell my bed fully intact. When I plug the camera in it doesn't work. Thinking I may have screwed something up, I pulled the camera off my bed (the white one) to test out my wiring and it works just fine. So did I get a bad camera off eBay and/or is there a compatibility issue between years I don't know about. My truck is a 2020 (built mid 2019) and I'm not sure of the donor camera year. Also not sure why the cameras look so different.

Good question. I know some of the very early Gladiators that the backup camera would not work with head units slave in from a JL Wrangler but do not know if that extended to the camera itself.

Both part numbers say they have 20-25 coverage when you google them. Maybe contact Benny @AllMoparParts.com and give him your VIN and he may be able to look it up?

The same is true for the wiring sub-harness. The dealer that first sold my truck spliced in one of those dumbass center light flasher units, cutting up the wiring to do so. The first one I bought had a different plug for the camera; the index nub was 90 degrees off. The plug was also a green instead of pink.

It's likely you got a camera off a different year truck.

The rear cameras are also different if the front camera is factory installed. There is another box the video goes through, and the rear camera for the box is not the same as the other trucks.

This is probably my case. I do have the front trail camera from the factory.

I didn't realize that. I also have the front camera; no wonder the harness I bought didn't fit.

If anyone needs a spare tailgate sub-harness and doesn't have a front camera, let me know! I have a never-installed OE one for you.
