So I have a partial solution, not sure if it is at all what youre looking for. I used voodoo crossmembers for my bed rack. The crossmembers are removable for tall items and the tent is low profile while leaving the bed open for gear and allowing my cover to roll up. You could add a roof rack after if thats still a goal.

Really like the look of this setup. What tonneau cover are you using and can you roll it all the way back behind the crossmember closest to the cab? I have the Mopar soft rolling cover and am looking for a rack that will work with it.

Thanks I went this route because it is very versatile. Not the best for any one thing but checks all my boxes. The tonneau is an access brand cover. I am able to roll it completely up with the crossbars on you just need to pull it through. Pics of what i mean plus one with the tent on and one with the crossbars off

Hey thanks for all the info. Do you think it would be possible to mount a bike carrier to the outside of the crossbar bracket like in the link below by using a square bracket instead of the angled one for the full rack? Or would it stick out too far beyond the side of the truck? I would like to be able to carry a bike and a RTT but don’t want the extra height (or cost) of the full-size rack.

Two reasons I don't see that working (though you may want to reach out to maxmodular)

1. The length of the bike will dictate the distance between your crossbars. That may not be ideal for mounting a tent.
2. I think the bike will be hanging pretty far off the side.

There is room to put 1 bike on top of the cross bars + a tent. I will need to fit 2 bikes so I went this route https://www.sportrack.com/product/ridge-swing-4/

Is there any reason a rack like this wouldn't work on a JT (obviously, with some modifications)..?

I need to raise my tent a few inches.
I have JCR full and I want to have my tent over my cab not hang over the back. any recommendations on raising it 3-4 inches?
Get a new rack.

Looking at the first photo, I dont understand how you can have a rack bolted to the bed AND the body, considering the two move independently of each other.
I had the same question, on this. I don't think you can have a rack bolted to the cab and bed at the same time because the bed flexes a little.

I have a Xplor Full Height from Rebel Offroad. Can pretty much configure it anyway you want. The table mount/table have been more handy than I could've imagined. There are about 300000000 options for bed racks out there. Hope ya find what ya need!

I like the Xplor rack also. I have a question. If i buy a tent that is longer than a bed. Is this rack tall enough for me to push the tent over the front.

I think you may have some contact with the roof under load. I had 12' 4x4s on there and only had about 1/2" of clearance if I remember correctly.

I am looking into overlanding and need some suggestions as my searching isn't getting me where I need to be.

Ideally I'd like a bed-rack and roof-rack combination that could go together for added storage ability. I looked at the Fab Four combo, but the front part over the windshield just kills it for me.

I like the Maxium 3 roof rack as it allows the top to be taken off. But their Overland Rack isn't flush with the roof rack. It sits about 2.5" higher according to the thread on it

I'm looking at Roof-Top Tents. So many options. The CVT Mt. Shasta with extension looks nice though it's only a 2 person. Does it take a long time to set up and take down? That is perhaps the biggest consideration for my choice in tent, that and it needs to sleep at least 3, maybe 4 (me wife and infant so far. but I eventually want this to be suited for a family of 5)

Also, looks like no matter who I go with I'll be spending $5500 on this setup? $1500 for bed rack, $1000 for roof rack, $3000 for tent. Ballpark. And the weight will be what, 500lbs? 200-250lbs for tent, 150-200lbs for bed rack, 100-150lbs for roof rack.

ETA: I am thinking about going with the JCR full bed rack and half roof-rack. Does anyone know the static weight capacity? Dynamic on-road capacity is 500lbs so off-road should be half that, and static should be 3x that?

Of course the best option would be a Leitner Forged rack with its 1400lbs static capacity, 800lb dynamic on-road, and 400lbs dynamic off-road capacities! But it is the most expensive and hardest to install

I have the JCR full rack with a TuffStuff Alpha hardshell 3/4 person RTT. The price combined was about 3k for those two items. The Alpha tent only weighs 173 lbs and the static for the jcr rack is 700 lbs I think. Check out my pictures on my photos area.
