First post here so I’m hoping I can get some good info/ideas! After extensive research I’ve come up a bit short on finding what I’m looking for. I’m a PPF installer and recently was inspired by the integrated on-board air on the new Tacoma trail hunter I recently worked on. It’s a compressor that’s literally integrated into the bedside of the truck with an access door to the inner bed(see photo). I love the idea of on-board air, but would hate to deal with a bulky setup on the inner bedside, engine bay, etc. Saving space on my rig is definitely a priority. Does anyone know of anything similar to this, or has anyone retrofitted something similar? Would love any thoughts, ideas or recommendations!

Friend of mine mounted his ARB compressor above the spare tire and routed the air chuck to the inside of the bed, near the tailgate. He was using an aux switch in the cab to activate it but I suppose you could also add a nearby switch.

He wheeled all over the country, never had an issue with the location far as I remember, being as high up and hidden as it was.

on my last Jeep I bought a 4xE cowl, and mounted the air chuck there. The ARB compressor is mounted near the brake booster. Had it wired to run using factory Aux switches. I have a Mojave now, so I can’t use that cowl. It will work on other model gladiators. My air chuck is mounted behind the front bumper, with a hydraulic dust cover protecting it.

This is genius! I might like this idea better than the bedside. My only issue is I have the go-rhino hi lift mount on the driver fender, and had to modify (beat with a hammer) my stock Rubi rock rails to fit the mount lol. Rubi rock rails are easy enough to come by though and I was considering a different hi lift mount. Are those 4xe cowels easy to come by?

I’d love to see someone do this with that new driver side plastic bed panel we’re seeing in the 2025 models.

I assume he had custom fabricated brackets to mount the compressor? I was looking around the spare tire and there is tons of room for activities down there, even with a 35” spare. There’s not a ton of room inside the actual bedside like I was thinking, but down lower near the frame would be a great option.

Just saw another forum on that, nobody seems to know what it’s for! Seems like it could definitely be done. I wonder if jeep is adding those and they will come out with a parts kit to add a compressor later.

I am pretty sure he just took whatever mount the compressor already had on it and self tapped it to a crossmember above or near the spare tire. It definitely wasn't anything custom  I was there when he did it, but its been many moons ago.

Same exact "blank" is in the Ram trucks.

I'm thinking of one of the other threads on this forum regarding a tailgate storage kit. I wonder if an ARB compressor could be squirreled away in that space.... Also wonder about the longevity of the wiring doing crunchies every time the tailgate is opened and closed.

So to anyone still following here, I’m getting started on the project (with my shop helper of course 😂). I picked up a VIAIR compressor off marketplace for $50, extended the 12v cord, wrapped it in conduit and found a good place to mount it. I ordered a stainless steel line to get the air from the compressor to the bedside, and I’ll mount the switch right next to the chuck. I’ll post updates along the way!
