Yep, and it's even worse if whatever in there is flopping around.This is a big thing people are overlooking. Not saying this is OP's problem but as an example, I can imagine someone saying " I just hung 250lbs of gear on my hitch, not even close to the tongue weight ". Then a dynamic event happens that amplifies that to 4000lbs and the frame bends. If you are using the trailer hitch and go off road, I'd stick to well maintained dirt roads only.
Not to mention at least with a trailer you have rebound from the trailer wheels. A hitch mounted tire carrier? Your frame is the rebound.
