We just took our first roadtrip (about 170 miles each way) in my 21 JT Sport S max tow with rubi take off 285/70/17s. I was averaging about 16.5-17 in my day to day routine. However on this essentially all interstate, all cruise control, only one stop each way trip I averaged 20.5mpg with the cruise set at 70 most of the time. This was also on somewhat hilly interstates in western Maryland and West Virginia. The stop/start frequent accelerations really seem to make a hit on the mpg. I bet if I were to set the cruise at 65-70 on a dead flat interstate I would be touching 22-23mpg. I'm pretty pleased overall given the absolutely horrible aerodynamics.

I took a trip to Galveston last month and observed that when i kept the speed at 65 or below, I was getting around 22 mpg. When I pushed it up to 70-80 mph, I got around 18 mpg. Higher speed than that, it got much worse. Its not as simple as saying that you took a trip andcyour gas mileage sucked.

It's easy on long trips with some runs of 55-65 and others of 75 mph speed limits to see the differences. Flat ground in Indiana we got over 21 when the speed limits were 60 and below. Once my wife hit the interstate with the 70 limit and bumped it up to about 75 or so, I could see the average keep dropping and settling to about 18-19.

Same for the trip back from CO - keeping in mind it's literally down hill from elevations above 4,000 to about 800 were we live - I kept watch on the altitude and it was a near constant drop all the way home and yet with the 75 limit and my wife running the cruise at 79, the mpg sucked, between 18-19 and yet last night on highways doing 60-65 I was getting 22 again. And our roads are HILLY, nothing at all like KS or NE flat and boring. About a mile from us elevation was 795, then a mile from that it was about 900, then back down to 825, then up to 900 again, up and down, sometimes 100 feet in less than a mile. So it's mph as much as if not more than hills.

I'm currently at 11.2 mpg. Was at 11.4 yesterday, but dropped 0.2 while waiting for curbside pickup. Hahaha.
Damn…making the rest of us feel better. Are you mashing the skinny pedal or something? My average is 15.9, but the best I have gotten highway after resetting the trip meter and just calculating highway, it was 17.

Things are looking up! Took a trip up to Big Bear from Indio...100 miles of mostly highway, and basically sea level to 6,800. Going up got 16.1 MPG. Coming back down got 26.4 MPG. That's an average of 21.25 MPG! On the highway coming back had a nice tailwind and was getting 32 MPG at 70 MPH. Also, I did the speed limits all the way. Mostly 65 and 70. This may be the key to decent mileage.

I simply don't trust the onboard computations for MPG....I am using a phone app called Fuelly and I think it's much more accurate. You might try an app, or calculate it manually, and see if the computer in the JT is giving you accurate numbers.
uour exactly right, I use fuelly to track every fill and Track maintenance too.

My Overland got 25-27 on all-highway tanks going cross-country last August with a bed cover and a small gear basket mounted to the hitch. Now, I get 17ish around town with a bed cover, an overland rack and a ~100lb roof tent installed. I think the Overland is a lot more fuel efficient than the Rubi or Sport, in my research.

My stock manual Overland runs 22 - 23 mpg driving back roads and state highways to work and back. Interstate driving runs 24 - 25 mpg. I usually keep within 5 mph of the posted speed limits.

Overland MT here with a dual top, rolling toneau cover, and painted fenders (ha). With the hardtop, I was averaging 15 high to mid 16. With the soft top, it bumped up to about mid to high 16. I tried higher octane gas for S's and G's, and now I get an average of mid 17s...and that was with no expectations I would see any change. Even when I try to hyper mile it, those numbers don't really change. Granted, with my work travel significantly down, most of my miles over the past year have been puttering around town or quick jaunts to my local office 11 miles away. When I've taken some longer drives (1.5-2 hours), I've been able to get up as high as 19 and change.

I also have a stock manual, just a sport because I hate electric crap and it hates me too.
Took a 4hr drive a month ago, hit 4k miles finally and ever since city in 22, highway is currently averaging 25 mpg. Base level gas, only BP or Pilot though.
And the ESS permanently disabled.

Curious what you've found. Is it the suspension and wheel package that creates the efficiency?

Those of you that are using the fuelly app or hand calculating, how does it compare to the onboard numbers?
