Welcome to the forums. Even though the thread was started a while ago it still gets updated. Usually there's someone that has to go and start a brand new thread. I'm surprised that tire places told you you can't go higher on tire size. Must be a California-thing. Here in PA everyone and their brother drives a truck or SUV that's lifted with big tires. Your upgrade looks good.
Discount tire said couldn't put some of the Wildpeak Rubicon take-offs on my stock Sport S.

This forum told me otherwise and this forum is right and DT computer is wrong :)

NO LIFT on 35's with Mopar Gear Satin Carbon Wheels.
Part Number 77072471AB

35 12.50 R 17 General Grabber and 17x8.5 wide with 5.22 BS mopar gear wheels. This was before my lift. No rubbing lock to lock. And fine if you chose to get the tires installed first and the lift later. The way my build was going I decided to get the dealer to add this to the BOS and get my Mopar Lift to install on my own.

See now I'm torn between a 285/75 and straight 35" KO2... I think I have the wife convinced about the stubby at the same time to deal with the rubbing, I'm just wondering if 35's will rub in back with weight off road... anyone have any feedback for a Max Tow on stock wheels?

My Discount Tire would not mount a 35x12.5 tire on the stock 7.5” wide rim as it was too small per the tire’s requirement. That is why I went with the 295/70/17 that I did. It is the biggest tire for the stock rim size. Other places will probably do it,though.

Would 315 70 17 fit on a 7.5" wide rim?
You can definitely do 12.5" wide on a 7.5" wide wheel so 315's are fine too. The tire manufacturers give those specs as guidelines for people buying new tires and wheels because deviating from those numbers might have an impact on the rated specifications or handling. Thing is they're rated for massive loads on 1-ton pickups, not wheeling around on Jeeps so the issue is minimal.

IMO, slightly narrower wheels are the way to go off road because of how they pull the tire, how much more resistant they are to popping a bead, and how much more they protect the wheel in the rocks. More sidewall equals more flexibility in wheel sizing and 35's have plenty of it as long as you're sticking with a 17" wheel. If you're doing something like 22's for show then I'd be a bit tighter on the requirement.

edit just double checked because the guy above mentioning needing a wider wheel and both the 35" and 315/70 show a 7.5" wheel on Discount Tire's site. Strange they wouldn't install them.

Discount Tire and its affiliates are super tight on the requirements to minimize liability. Their system provides a list of combinations that fit on any given vehicle and they will not deviate from that list unless you manage to get a manager's buy-in. When I wrenched years ago, they wouldn't do big off road tires or run-flats so they'd just direct them to us down the street.

The specific tire I chose listed an 8.5 as the minimum width. Other tires may vary. My mistake may have been asking up front and putting in their minds.

I went back and forth on what tires to get. Was going to stay stock (245/75r17) then thought about 255/75r17 or 255/80r17. DTD had their flash sale Monday so I got 285/70r17 P rated Cooper Discoverer AT3 4S which weigh 45lbs each. I wanted to stay close to stock weight as I could. The tires were $50 off for 4 and there's also a $70 rebate. Bought Monday, delivered today. PA has this stupid law now where the tread can't stick out past the fenders and this goes for inspections too so I wasn't going to go with 35" and I prefer white letter tires and there wasn't any choices in the 285/75r17 and they were heavy tires anyways. I did consider the C rated KO2 but I've had them before and they pick up little rocks like crazy. I had the C rated 315/70R17 on my '15 JK and then sold them a few months later for some 285 Coopers and had to dig out all the rocks with a screwdriver hahaha. I mainly use my truck for hauling stuff, no towing so I don't care for everyone's whole 'P rated sucks for towing so buy heavy E rated 35" tires instead' bullshit that 'supposed' tire experts here like to spew.

Side note for others, the 295/70r17 full size spare fits under the truck stock spare area fully inflated. No need to put in bed or other option. In case anyone was wondering that hadn't purchased yet.
