meanwhile, in Boone NC, there’s ten of these last time I was there a couple weeks ago.

If they were JT’s with 392’s, instead of JL’s I’d probably already be divorced by now. Although they are happy to do hemi swaps.

If I lived within 20 miles of RubiTrux...I, too, would be divorced.

Tell me about it, I just happened to fall into a regular cab short bed thing watching youtube. Having a moment of losing sleep over building a toy truck with a 5.0...

Wallet says...no.
So how hard is this? I traded an F150 with a Coyote for a 2024 Sport S. I miss that V-8.

They’re really nice up there and seem to do a good job. The AMW pricing including installation is pretty reasonable. Not sure that Rubitrux honors that though.

I went from an X5M with almost 600hp to the JT …. No regrets though.

It's funny because I used to live in NC...so access to Uwharrie and Windrock was great (spoiled). I'm moving to Pensacola from Ohio in August, but I haven't looked into the off-road scene in the panhandle.
Sand trails and swamps, oh and multiple paint scratches.....

I don’t think it’s the rubicon you are bored with, it’s probably your lifestyle. I’d check locally then regionally, try joining a street car club and race for pinks, or try a demolition derby, or maybe try going everywhere without using a road. Excitement is what you make it, you do you.

Sounds like you need to put the money towards taking the truck to new trails and locations rather than putting it towards more mods.

How about going to Alaska?

You can burn money on truck mods and arrive at exactly the same spot in a few months. I second/third/fourth all the above. Get out on the trails, or go camping/fishing with what you have already. You need a lifestyle adjustment. Unfortunately I don’t know the Florida scene, but you can also go to GA, TN, and AR pretty easily.

If you _really_ want to burn money, get a completely different vehicle to pair with your Jeep. We also have a 6MT Porsche. I got a little bored commuting in it, until we got our Jeeps and they reminded me how stupidly fast and fun it is. 🤣

Or you can take our current approach — moving our house across the country hot and high with a too-big-for-6MT cargo trailer. You won’t get bored trying to stay out of second gear going uphill on the highway while dodging traffic! Did I mention managing hot oil for long climbs in third? A hail storm cutting visibility to 100 feet with the big rigs still passing at 70 mph? Running away from a tornado near a town you stopped at for a bathroom break? 😂

Honestly, I haven’t actually been _bored_ driving any vehicle. But, we always try to own and drive manuals. Except for the Nissan Versa we had as a rental once… That wasn’t boring though…. It was absolutely terrifying! (Is that fixed on? Why does the steering have 90 degrees of play? Where’s the tachometer? Why don’t the brakes work consistently?) 🤣

Money can definitely buy experiences, but buying the same ones over and over again is a recipe for both boredom and a lighter wallet.

For what you would lose in depreciation swapping to a new Jeep, you could get a pilot’s license and a whole lot of rental time. Yes, we own an airplane too now… It’s a money pit worse than any Jeep or Porsche as long as you’re DIYing your maintenance on the latter two. We definitely don’t fly it enough.

You are wrenching on your own vehicles, right? Nothing like cussing out control arm bolts! 🤣

My point is that there’s no end to the hedonic treadmill until your mindset changes or you go broke. We’re pretty far up the ladder and have hit diminishing returns on buying expensive toys. No desire to “move up” to a Lambo — we have a great sports car that we will run into the ground. It’s very tactile, which is what we find fun. No desire to get a sailboat or a yacht — not our lifestyle. No desire for a vacation home…. Maintaining one already sucks.

No desire to get “new” Jeeps. We got them — her 2019 JLUR has a 1.5” lift, winch, and skid plates. It will go anywhere we want to go and run any trail we might want to run. My Gladiator…. Well, we may have to get a better tow vehicle since we’re moving to a rural area. I’d hate to give up the manual as I know an automatic will irritate me no end. Still figuring that one out.

YMMV

Yup...doing all of my work other than mounting tires. No, I wholeheartedly agree...but was (am) on the precipice of trading in for a 1500 Rebel, not a "newer" Jeep (unless it was a 392). I've been coming across 2019-2021 Rebels (50-70k miles) for a $2-5k delta from trade appraisals, which is a little too tempting. That said, I do have some weird, somewhat emotional attachment to my JTR – "known" it since mile 10 on the odometer...and the Gator color is *chef's kiss*.

Given the number of 1500s that seem to be available for the given years/mileage, I can only assume the owners were either freaked out or having issues with the "Hemi tick" and manifold bolts. However, I think the 5.7 Hemi and 3.6 Pentastar share similar longevity characteristics...it's all about maintenance! Long story short, I at least know why my JTR's issues are, how they were fixed, maintenance...etc.

As for mods, I mean, I started this thread because I haven't had a burning desire for anything specific (but portals that someone suggested...that would be kind of sick). I went through my Hemi swap phase, wannabe overland phase, and I'm still kind of stuck in my longarm/coilover phase. Other than that, the OEM+ thing I have going on suits my aesthetic taste. Now to contradict myself – a flat bed/canopy setup is something I've been eyeing as well, but it seems like a logistical nightmare.

So yes, I need to get the truck back out there. I will admit, as a North Carolina native (I miss that state terribly) now Ohio and soon-to-be Florida resident, I still go to OBX every year; getting out on the beach super early with the dogs and the truck does make me feel some type of way (not that that is really "wheeling," but I think ya'll get it). Since I've sold off two of my beaters, I guess I've been wary about what I am willing to put my JTR through. So, perhaps the answer is – get a new beater daily and enjoy the JTR as is.
