Now that I'm rolling on 37s I can tell there is a lot more rotational inertia making the brakes work harder. Not quite as bad as when I used to drive a 12,000 ambulance but I would like the safety factor of improved stopping distance. I've only got about 2.5k miles on my truck so pads are essentially new, and I flushed the brake fluid after installing extended lines in the rear.

I was curious what brake upgrades y'all have done that you'd recommend? Seems like there are a lot of options, and would prefer to hear from the expereince of the group.

Thanks!

On my dad's jk he was rolling on 37's and the brakes were kind bad and i installed him some power stop brake pads and some drilled and slotted rotors and the braking performance was night and day,his brakes were shot so that's why there was a big difference but it was for sure better than stock I'll tell you that

So doing that to a JT would probably render good results, especially with how big the calipers are on these trucks,I was surprised when I took my wheels off to paint parts of the axles that were kinda rusted

Once my warranty is over, im going with the Baer 6 piston brake kit, front and rear. Thats the reason I went with 18ā€ dia wheels.?

Can you lock up your brakes now and get abs to kick in?
If you nail the brakes, get abs to kick in, let off and nail it again, will they lock up?

I bet they will.
Ross drilled and fancy stuff won’t make you stop any better.

fancy brakes will just help you when hot lapping your JT.

with 35s, I can lock it up with stock brakes.

Sustained braking while going downhill with a trailer would be my concern. In those cases, upgraded brakes would make a difference. Normal driving around town or an emergency brake situation on a highway of course stock is still going to be completely sufficient.

So i'm not the only one who noticed the brakes suck on these. Are there any pads that make a difference? I'd prefer to start small and go from there.

They last a heck of a long time on closer to stock running gear. Better than my LJ had for sure. I don’t push through them in low gear as much.

Bang for the buck. A set of pads. Something EBC Yellowstuff, or Hawks. A good flush with the ABS engaged. Step up would be stainless brake lines front and rear. Next would be a big brake kit.

Currently on 40's had 37's scince new. Now at 51k miles, I have put a set of pads on the front. I honestly see no issue with them. I can more than lock up, or cause abs to activate. I noticed the 37's some on our jku factory brakes but never saw a need for upgrading them either. I do engine brake alot with the manual so that does affect my opinion im sure. I should add, I have stainless Grimm front lines, factory rear lines.

FWIW I put the Teraflex delta brakes on my overweight JTRD with an Alu-Cab camper and it’s one of the best things I’ve done. Could I have locked up the stock brakes on my 37s, yeah kinda, though not immediately on stomping, and I’d have to push super fucking hard to get into ABS. With the Delta brakes, it’s a pretty light touch, really nice linear modulation, right on the top of the pedal stroke, and much less force required.

I think that rapid and linear action probably shaves a few tenths off deep braking reaction time. But that’s nothing compared to how much better they are on trail. Before, steep 25+ degree walls and steps were a little iffy, pushing my butt hard into the seat to generate enough braking force. Much lighter and easier to modulate now. One of my favorite mods really.

I’m on the stock pads that came with them but since they use a standard Tundra pad, there are a ton of pad compounds available too

I paid $1200 on sale and so worth it. Could be different for lighter rigs though
