You need to bolt them to the metal of the truck body. That's how it will disapate the heat
Problem being there's not enough slack in the harness to do so; plus there was nothing mentioned about that in the instruction guide

I used of the bolt holes on the resistor and ran a zip tie to hang it from the plastic framing of the light. So it's in a kindof freehanging situation and not touching anything. I didn't realize how hot they got though. Will be opening mine to take a peek.

It's a shame they didn't leave enough wire.... But yes they should always be bolted to metal somewhere to act like a heat sink.

After looking at this thread for months I bought these last week and installed them. Just finished painting them and getting them shined up. They look great but this is shocking! I’ll be moving that resistor somewhere away from the plastic, sheesh…Thank you for sharing your sacrifice! Condolences.
Also, Rugged Ridge could be a little more clear in instructions about the way the rubber grommet gets pulled into the plastic housing to fit the LED, only figured it out looking at pics on the internet. Images in the instructions and on the box aren’t accurate…half an hour of fruitless soapy finagling. Guess we’re the guinea pigs…

Been a minute and had to actually search for the thread. So just posting to keep showing interest and to bump the thread. Hopefully your commuting hasn't drained you too terribly, 20 hours in the car a week for work sucks.

I haven't even made my passenger tail light yet ?.... But I do have 13 3d printers now. At this point, with how cheap the rugged ridge lights are, I wasn't sure anyone was still excited for these.

I've also been researching a lot more too. Trying to find something a lot easier to wire for production.

The only reason I haven't ordered the RR ones is because I'm patiently waiting for your amazing lights ;)

Oh man no, I am a patient man. And I absolutely want sequential lights. I am not itching for new taillights by any means, so I have no problem waiting for these.

Lucky 13. I have no interest in the RR for a bunch of reasons. I’m also not interested in the Oracles for some of the same reasons and some different ones. I remain interested in your design / production. Quietly lurking in the shadows waiting …

I appreciate all the hard work and effort you have put into this project. I hope you enjoy whatever you move on to. Although, you are an SOB if you get something like a SmartCar...
