Anyone with any experience or feedback on ceramic coating. There is a place by me that comes highly recommended but man they ain't cheap. The 5 Year coating is $600 and they want to do a detailing and paint deal before the coating which they want to charge $400 for.

Not sure if its worth it or just use the stuff like Chemical guys or others sell for ceramic wax finish.

My truck sits outside in the Brutal South Texas Heat as well as the friking oak tree which likes to drop its sap and crap on the truck.

So just checking since its a good bit of money which I could do other stuff to the truck.

Lots of do it yourself videos on youtube that make it look doable for 1/10 the price.

Have been using ceramic coatings for a few years. It's on my boat, truck, jeep and travel trailer. I use DPC shield.

I am going to try Adam's Graphene on the JT when it arrives.

To the OP, the reason they want to do a paint correction is for a couple reasons. The paint needs to be free of any other coatings. The paint needs to be completely decontaminated. The paint needs to be exfoliated of any oxidized clear coat. Even a vehicle straight off the delivery truck has embedded contaminants.

$1000 for a 5 year coating isn't a bad deal.

Or you can do it yourself. Strip wash, clay bar, iron remover, d/a polish, surface prep IPA, coating.

That is a good price $1,800.00 here. I did my own when new, as stated earlier surface needs to be free of everything expect the clearcoat. It should take a couple days from start to finish.

Ok....I have lots of experience in this area. I can offer my view. When it comes to these coatings, the quality of the coating and the prep work means EVERYTHING and yes....it’s expensive. A great job will be $2k. Takes a long time and must cure correctly.

All coatings are not created equally.

HOWEVER...two things to keep in mind.
first, this is a jeep. It’s not a $200k car. Second, you can do a DIY job and get most of the benefit. These products have improved a TON!!!!

When I picked up my JT I figured WTF I am going to a hybrid product. I did ZERO prep. Nada. Just washed it and applied Turtle Wax Hybrid. Have about 4 coats on it.

i wash it with the same line of products, use high quality rags and always dry it with their hybrid wet wax. The results are stunning.

I use it on my water crafts and my bike too.

cheap, easy and it works.

For a professional job for $1000 that’s pretty good. That said...what you pay for is the color correction first and the ceramic application while important I believe is secondary. I’ve included what my Gladiator looked like before, and after. It makes all the difference if the paint is prepped properly before hand. That said...it also depends on the eye of the beholder. My paint is black. Every tiny swirl mark or scratch is noticeable. Some colors not so much. The paint correction is the polished and scratches and swirls buffed out. The ceramic provides a bit of protection and hydrophobic nature to repel water. It won’t protect your paint from scratches or trail pin stripes...HOWEVER...my first time out on the trails I took some small branches that slid across the back of my JT clearly marking up through all the dust. In past experience I knew for sure this would have pin stripped the paint. Even though I was warned it would not offer any protection like this, I was shocked that it had. That being said, I would never suggest ceramic coating protects from trail pin stripping.

If you are able to fix and buff up something like this, then you could diy. I surely couldn’t.

Ceramic coating was applied after the color correction job. If you’re getting a shop to do this, check out their reviews as like I said and others have, the ceramic application could probably be done by yourself, it’s the correction part that may take a bit more skill.

I got this ceramic coating done after not washing my Gladiator for over 6 months and driving it around mainly like the photo below. Only thing I did was to take a garden hose to it to wash off the bigger pieces of mud and dirt.

I have been hearing really good things about the turtle wax hybrid items lately.

I been using Meguires Gold Class shampoo and their Ceramic wax since I got the truck but not to happy with the ceramic spray wax they have. Maybe I just try something else and see how it goes. Maybe down the line I will get a proper job done on it. My inlaws had their Highlander wrapped in that clear plastic type of stuff. That was kind of interesting. Its been a couple years and its still holding up well

Just do it yourself. Save your money for other mods. Sounds like you’re already dipping into the diy route anyhow.

My neighbour did exactly that. He was admiring the ceramic coating on my Gladiator for weeks before he started watching diy youtube videos. He was already waxing and polishing his black Audi so he felt comfortable doing the ceramic himself. It looks pretty good and he’s happy with it. Definitely saved himself some cash.
