Well, at the dealer now. They sent me to the collision center, and the guy looked at the hinge and went yup, then asked to open my doors, and low and behold we found bubbling and corrosion at the bottom of the doors too. Jesus… didn’t even see that. This guy knows what he is doing and they are now taking pictures and will submit for approval. I will get all new parts Vice trying to fix. He said they have not had an issue with claim denial yet. Couldn’t believe I missed so much in other areas. Check your doors along the bottom under the sealant strip, noticeable bubbling under paint. Crazy
That sounds like our dealer's collision center. They know their stuff, know what to look for.

Fixing isn't a great option, especially time-wise. Granted, body shop hourly rates are a fraction of the other shop, but still..................

Just got a call from the collision center, warranty claim is already approved. They ordered all of the parts and will be here end of next week. Hood, all 4 doors, tailgate all hinges and bolts. This feels like it’s going to good right now.

so do the parts come already painted or what? I am always confused how this works if its a Jeep Issue. Does this not just prolong it where it happens again a few years later? Guess I dont understand whats different the second time around?

The parts come treated, but not painted. It's up to the body shop to do the proper prep and painting so the new parts don't corrode like the original parts.

It's who is doing the painting, prep, assembly and such...............and it's more "personalized".

I don't know EXACTLY what they are doing as far as prep and prevention, but it's going to be different from factory for sure.
I have an idea as to what I'd do - but they have better technology and equipment and materials than I'd use on my own. (I prep and paint with an eye directly on avoiding corrosion here in Iowa, so that's how I've done my cars)

Also supposedly the new hinges come with the zinc shims per the TSB. Sort of like the artificial zinc anode they put on boat motors, maybe it helps, maybe it doesn’t? But I do assume the collision center will paint and prep different than the factory. Person vs machine? Not sure

I tried to figure out "why zinc" because it's still going to connect the parts electrically, and the parts (hinge and door skin) aren't that far apart in the metal activity chart - zinc would be well more active than either and that means it's going to sacrifice itself over time - disappearing.
It's almost a contradiction, or even a "grasping at straws" thing.
Remember, the zinc anodes put in water heaters, on boats and so on, disappears and has to be replaced after some time. So - what about these?

To be honest, I am not educated enough on that subject to even begin to discuss. Jeep seems to think this is a fix. I’m sure it’s a bandaid if anything until the next redesign. Just hoping the shop does a good job on prep and paint. And if I have to replace a shim every few years then so be it, in my opinion. I’m sure for the masses that’s a no go. But I’m used to doing my own oil changes, greasing zirc fittings, torque checking bolts, especially all the ones on the beadlocks. Guess it’s fun for me really, I like to tinker as my wife says. Idle hands really are my problem.

Whatever the deal is, the shop here says they've never seen it return after they do the repairs - so I guess we just go with that.

The hinge's zinc shims are insulated from the hinge itself, there is no electrical contact between the hinge and the shim. The shims are only sacrificial for the door and only when installed against bare aluminum. When my dealer does the corrosion repair, since both the door and shim get painted, I doubt that the shims are sacrificial at all.

The shims are not available as a separate part and because they are adhered to the hinge, they will have to be replaced with the hinge.
