Wix has now finally entered the game as well with a filter as another alternative. Somewhere in a FB group there a picture with all the ratings for aftermarket filters. Most of them are pretty decent and most of it came down to capacity to hold metal shavings. Doc's was one of the worst and held about half of a Mopar filter. Wouldn't recommend running them more then 5K miles if you do use them. The micron rating was on par with OEM though. I'll try and dig up the ratings and post back.

I don't have FB.

Do you know if the OEM media are synthetic or Cellulose?

The STP Extended version claimed to be synthetic media.

AutoZone stp s45027xl ordered sep 5 delivered sep 12. 68 pleats compared to the 67 on the pronto from rock auto p099571ex. Both claim 10k miles on synthetic media. Pics are the stp. Stp was 39$ shipped. Pronto(various mfg on Rock auto) was 33.28 shipped. The media does appear different on the two by color.

I ordered 2 fuel filters and got the entire fuel filter housing.

The 2 metal probes sticking out from the center column is the water sensor. It works off of conductively. When water touches both probes. The conductively in the water makes contact (closes the switch to speak of) between the probes.

Rusty,

I was looking to replace my fuel filter as well. I have seen the option for the complete housing/filter for nearly $100... but just the filter for $20 or so....

Is it just the cartridge that is needed or do you need the complete housing ?

I found this on ebay, would you mind checking and letting me know if this is all I need ?

Found this when looking for the WIX....
Makes my ass hurt.... thankfully they aren't available yet.... might as well stick with OEM with these prices.

You just need the filter cartridge. Don't need the housing.

Does anyone know if the ecodiesel requires anti drain back valve in the filter? Looking at the STP extraguard from Autozone but it states NO anti drain back valve.

Anti drain back valve is built into the oil housing. The filter just has a bypass valve.

would almost make it seem like replacing the housing/filter assy would be easier than draining fuel removing and replacing filter and them priming..... or at least the same number of steps lol. I always worry about a seal when re-assembling these type of fuel filters that have an o-ring that can be pinched.

Below are photos of the markings on a genuine filter that those counterfeit might not have.

Mold or production numbers.
Bringing this up again, I know, I know, but does anyone now if recent production of these filters has changed a few things like the logo? I bought a filter of amazon that looked good, and still looks legit in person aside from a few small things. Either the production line updated or the counterfeits have gotten really good... Mine has no upper line like these pics, and the UFI Filters is a slightly different size. Dealer here used WIX and I have only used WIX before so don't have an old comparison.
