Howdy, I made me a trail rail and added tie down points to my Glad
using Unistrut.

I used the half height stuff ($34 for 10 feet) along with some tie down loops from Lowes.

I primed and painted it.

I think it turned out perfect for my use (holding diesel fuel cans
from bouncing around).

I did the same shit and put more of it on top of my bed rail too. I bought zinc plated stuff so it matches my other MC hardware.

I know this thread is a few months old, but I’m curious. Does it have to be 1 5/8” deep channel? I have a leftover 10ft section of 3/4” deep channel (the stuff for electrical boxes) is that too skinny? Would attachments not slide on the rail? Is there a reason it’s 1 5/8” deep?

I wanted it to be flush for the Billie bars I’m going to mount.

I Just got the after market trail rail system from Amazon made by dicmic (china copy of oem) and it is an exact copy except for 4 hooks you get 6. Black powder coated S/S. $150.00 shipped with prime. I give it 5 stars so far.

Question for you guys running unistrut or builtright - do you find that accessories made for the Mopar trail rails (or others) works with your set-up or are you having to modify/compromise fit, etc.?

Accessories I'm thinking of would be toppers, tonneaus, and maybe something like the Hi-Lift jack brackets. I am a frugal guy and like to fab a lot of my own stuff, but sometimes buying something like the Hi-Lift jack brackets for $80 is hard to beat.

Thanks for your input!

I did the same thing @ShadowsPapa did. Bought it off Amazon. I like that kind of rail better because it's very low profile. I did the sides and front edge of the bed. I've seen some even install it into the floor for tie-downs for motorcycles, etc.

The attachments are moveable and reasonably priced.

I have considered putting one along the front, and a couple on the bed floor, but haven't had a bit need so far.
I really like the low profile. Totally out of the way when you don't need them.
They aren't for accessories like toppers and so on, but I am not a fan of that sort of thing anyway - you have big clamps all the way down to a rail that protrudes into the bed of the truck. It's one big reason, besides cost, I didn't go with the MOPAR rails - too large and intrusive for my type of use.
