Hi - I purchased a 2024 Mojave X in October, 2024. Over the winter I used the 4x4 a handful of times, and each time the vehicle was put in 4-wheel drive (4H btw) there was an audible, rhythmic knocking sound coming from the front end. You could hear it in the cab up until ~25 mph or so, then road noise would mask it. I didn't think too much of it, but figured I should get it checked out @ the dealer.

Fast forward to end of March this year, I took it in for initial diagnosis and they said the "entire 4x4 assembly" would have to be rebuilt and they needed to order parts. Parts came in and I dropped it off on 4/17. They replaced what they replaced (I never got an itemized list) but the technician wasn't satisfied with the fix as there was still a noise when 4x4 was engaged and "using a stethoscope." On 4/21 they gave me a loaner to drive and my truck is still sitting at the dealer waiting on more parts, which are on order with a 2-3 week delivery estimate.

As a side-note, my BSM indicators on the mirrors illuminate unevenly, as in the triangle does not light fully. The passenger side is way worse than the drivers side - about 2/3 of the triangle is lit up. After pushing them pretty hard on it, they agreed to replace the passenger side mirror. I haven't seen the results of this yet since the truck is still at the dealer. Again, I had to push them on this for some reason, as they said the BSM system is functioning as it should. My push back was that I didn't say it didn't function, that my issue was with the light indicators themselves. One last item that is bugging me is a random clicky sound coming from the front dashboard area - I can't track it down. It's random and quite consistent over bumps and such. Just aggravating!

I say all of this to say, or to ask - has anyone else noticed a degrade in quality on their newer Gladiators? I should also mention that I owned a 2020 JTR and it was flawless aside from the steering knuckle TSB thing which the dealer took care of. I have to admit that my experience and comparison in quality from a 2020 to a 2024 has gone down.

PS: I have 4,500 miles on the X

Automobiles are getting more complicated with less robust parts, including a lot of electronics, sensors, and wires, and "optimally" designed mechanical parts that meet the minimum requirements of getting the job done while shaving ounces for mpg and saving pennies for more profit. But has quality gone down? I've heard that lament for 50+ years. Apparently every new model year is lower quality than the last.

What I miss is the simplicity of older vehicles. Even 20 years ago they were significantly simpler and easier to diagnose and repair.

I don’t think I could say that your experience is the norm, needing “ an entire four-wheel-drive system” replaced under warranty is definitely not the norm. If it was, Jeep would be bankrupt as opposed to the nearing bankruptcy that they are now.

That being said, I think back to the depression people experienced during the initial assembly lines. They felt no purpose in doing a single task all day, no fulfillment. I think we’ve learned to cope with that, but pride seems to be going by the wayside on many items. That and the pinching of pennies. My former truck for example, had 3 visibly bad paint defects from the factory in the form of runs. It made it through QA like that. It was too much of a pain to get my dealer to cover it, which they would, just got annoying playing phone tag with the advisor from the body shop.

I hope they get this squared away. FWIW, at 30 days you can ask about a buy back. Not that they will, but these laws exist for a reason.

I think it's really luck of the draw when it comes to whether or not a vehicle will have problems or not. At a month old, all four of my O2 sensors had to be replaced, but since they were replaced, it's been flawless. I don't think anything made by humans will ever be perfect. As long as they fix it properly, you should be good to go for a long time.

Splenda beat me to "luck of the draw." The Jeep has been good so far at 1 year. My 2008 Ford had one warranty repair to the heating system right after purchase. My various Lexus/Toyota/Subaru suvs along the way have had no problems. (By far the worst was my German sports car . . . luckily it had a Certified Pre-Owned warranty to cover the new engine.)

I'd welcome anyone to buy a 1984 Scrambler and go daily it 80 mph through city traffic, and drive it hundreds of miles off road on the weekends and see what their outcome is.
I sold a Scrambler on eBay for a friend. The buyer wanted to drive it home from Michigan to Maine. I strongly advised against it. He of course didn't make it and I got a negative review for it.

Just your turn in the barrel. Mine maybe tomorrow.

On my 4th Gladiator. 1st one a 2020, had all the usual 1st year issues of intermittent misfire, crappy loose steering (fixed by TSB), random hot air blasting feet (fixed by TSB), leaking rear window (fixed by warranty) and front fender liners that would fold into and get eaten by the tires (fixed by RRT).

Last three have been pretty much no issue other than some shoddy Jeep Wave dealership service.

I have two Jeep Wave oil changes and tire rotations. I'm currently at 5000 miles and have already done two oil changes and one tire rotation. Should I skip having them do the 10,000 mile oil change/tire rotation? I hate letting anyone touch my vehicle. Is it not worth the free oil and filter?

They're worth it on the diesel. Damn thing takes 9 quarts of Euro synthetic and the oil filter costs more than the whole oil change on my wife's Subaru.

Yeah, for the 3.6, five quarts of 0w20 and a filter is around $40.

Quality sucks more now than ever and Jeeps were always questionable. Thats why I will only own this gladiator until 36K at most.
