Hey guys,

Got my Gladiator three days ago. This afternoon I am picking up Rosie from the shelter. She is a sweet, well behaved 2.5 year old German Shepherd.

According to Washington State law, it is legal to carry a dog in the truck bed, as long as it is tethered/harnessed, or crated.

Her previous owners kept her OUTside the house. I plan to keep her mostly inside the home, but would prefer for her to ride outside if possible.

I would add a bedrug to the bed so she can be comfortable and get a good grip.

Yay? Nay? Other ideas?

PS - I got a seat cover so she will be riding inside from the shelter today.

Meet Rosie

One of our primary drivers for the canopy was our lab. We have a decked system too… and I throw a rubber bed mat on top of the decked system so she doesn’t slide around at all.

now that the Jeep is lifted and on bigger tires- I do usually lift her in and out. My lab growing up had hip/joint issues that I think were partially attributed from jumping in and out of our truck every day.
? have fun with the new pup.

Yeah. As I read more about it, I am leaning towards getting something like a Gunner Kennel.

They are expensive ($600-$700), but are designed specifically to be tied down to a truck bed. Even have a 5 Star crash rating!

My late 135 pound Great Pyrenees St Bernard mix rode in the bed in a crate. The crate was secured to the truck bed and his bed went inside the crate. He loved to ride in the crate.

I would never put my dog in the bed but I understand everyone is different about it.

That being said, I’m sure there’s some solid secure options out there as long as you’re willing to pay up for quality.

Btw, Rosie is cute as fuck ?

I don’t have time to post a whole thing right now so basically I’ll just say the way I have mine set up right now it’s like one big dog box, a lot of vehicles on the road with no protection, seatbelts, etc. Motorcycles, trolley, cars, buses, subways, trains, etc.

I spent most of my career as a fed Leo K9 handler. The way my government rig was set up. The dog was basically in the same set up just slightly smaller, so I feel good about it the way I have it now.

GM for a Napa group of stores.
My whole reason for getting the Softtopper was for my dogs to ride. We just got back from a 2k+ trip to Miami and they love it. My pits 125lb, and my boxer is 65lbs. I have a no-spill water bowl for them, and some thicker bed mats for them to stay comfy. They love having the sides rolled up as we cruise down the road.
