The only thing switching to a sport rim does is pull the tires to the center of the jeep about a quarter of an inch.. If you are still running the 285/70 17s, you are going to be as efficient as a Mojave is going to get. None of the gas engines get great mileage.

You could get some sport take offs pretty cheap. I still have my sport factory wheels in storage. I think they are around 31" diameter. I would be hard pressed to go smaller than stock Mojave wheels which I believe are 33"? I base that on looks only. It's going to look funny IMO.

Mojave wheels have a different offset than other Gladiators, I'm not sure the narrower tire form a Sport/Overland is enough to still clear the shocks. You may want to test fit before purchase.

Having said that, I have a MaxTow with the same 4.10 gears as the Mojave. I swapped my stock wheels for a set of Rubicon takeoffs, there's not a whole lot of mpg difference before/after.

are rubi wheels much smaller lighter than mohave's? i also think the offset would be fine due to the thinner rubber on the sport, aolt thinner than the fat mohave tires, also I dont care about looks.... except when I do....which is up there w being a cheap ass, like i am after buying a 55 grand jeep. lol

This is a solution in search of a problem. The tires are going to make maybe .25 mpg difference if you are lucky but there is a high portability you will be too close to the stock shock under articulation and would damage it.

I'm in San Bernardino with Overland wheels and tires under 4000 miles. If Interested let me know I'm sure we can work something out. I don't need the mojave wheels but you can always sell those and get your money back.

wait why is it when people go up in size an inch or two their mpg drops by 3-4 mpg but if you downsize it wouldnt matter? would overland wheels clear the shocks in your opinion?

Still 4.10s. Dropping to 31" sports wont get u massive gains. I think 3.73 sports might get 23 mpg. Jeep aint a prius.

I went up 6 inches and regeared and lost 3-4 highway and less than that city. No one goes up an inch and loses 3-4, if that were true then Rubicons would be rated 3-4 lower than an overland and they're not. Real world you are looking at less than 1 mpg for downsizing.

I'm not sure about the Rubicon wheels, but the stock Mojave wheel is something like 23lbs, which is very light. Other than that and the slight offset difference the Rubicon wheels are the same size (7.5 x 17).

You might get some benefits from going to a street tire instead of the AT or MT you have, but I can't imagine it would be worth it.
