Keep on mind it’s really payload that gets you before max towing. Most WDHs are over 100 lbs. two adults... 400-450 easy. Hitch weight... I my experience it’s more like 15% because many TT’s have the passthrough storage in the front. That extra 300-400 in payload makes a big difference. By the time you add supplies to that truck, and food, grills, extra propane ... adds up quick.

A variance between 10-15% in tongue weight could easily put you over the payload for the diesel. I ended up going with a hitch receiver on my TT and added a back basket to distribute the weight evenly over the axel (between from cargo and rear hitch storage).
I heard there's a chart that has all the trim levels and options that give a payload and max towing capabilities

the max tow bros will tell you all day long that they’ve got un unstoppable beast. if you care about towing and don’t like life above 4500 RPM get the diesel
I’m a max tow bro but about to be a diesel bro when my order shows up. Def if you go bigger tires and towing you will live in high revs up slight hills... I pushed my max to pretty hard with my boat. It does fine.. can’t wait to see how the diesel does.

I'm having issues deciding between the eco diesel in a willys trim or max tow,

Arguments for I really want a diesel

Arguments against we are looking at a 5200 lb trailer dry and its really pushing that weight capacity for the diesel tow rating.

Thoughts for and against?

Should we go with the diesel or max tow,
With saving the money on not going diesel I also would basically get to throw every package on there and be the same price as what I was looking at for the diesel

Diesel may pull the weight better but the Pentastar can pull the weight as well and will do so much more reliably for a lot less money.

Diesel
All the torque at under 2k rpm

the diesel will pull 6,000 pounds easier than the gasser

This maybe be true, but there is a reason the diesel is rated for 6500 and not 7650 lbs. like the max tow... cooling issues stopped the diesel from being able to tow more. Which would be concerning that they have cooling issues over 6500..... especially when towing heavy.

I believe the Diesel engine weighs more and that’s one reason it dropped....

I can give a legit honest comparison as soon as my diesel shows.

it def weighs more but not 1150 more... a couple articles note the towing was capped at 6500 due to cooling limitations.

It weighs 400 more which means you’re sacrificing a bunch of capacity due to payload reduction as well

Towing is only a small part of your life. Also factor it the rest of your driving habits. If you only have a 15 minute drive to work it will not make sense to have the diesel.

There is more to towing than weight such as frontal area of your trailer. Most campers that people are towing with these have much more area than the measly 55sqft they are rated for.

So throw all of the towing aside because we all know ratings are there to be broken.

All that said I bought my diesel to tow a 5100lb camper. I will do a full review when I get the chance to tow it in the spring.

I think the cooling is bs
And they did not want the gladiator to steal any ram sales

towed a 16 foot toyhauler with a can am x3 inside
Total weight 6,800

Gladiator diesel tows it just as nice as my f350 diesel
and get better mpg than the hummer h2 that usually tows it

What kind of mpg did you get? Was it towed in flats or hills? I averaged 6-8 in the mountains and 8-10 on flat pulls. Just curious.
