Has anyone tried using the Cooldown mode while driving option from the Taser Mini while towing?? Apologies if it’s already been discussed, I tried to read most of this thread. My wife and I are looking to purchase the NoBo 19.8 which has a UVW of 4117lbs.

We would for sure want to tow this from TX to CO, Utah, Wyoming etc….sounds like this could be problematic. Curious if the using the Cooldown option the taser has while driving before steep grades to assist has been documented.

Nope, never heard of it.....

Did you read any of the thread before posting? This has all been covered. A simple search will keep the thread from getting clogged up with bs....oops too late! ?

Yeah I read through from page 20 to the end and that is what spurred the question.

With that being said, the Taser Mini has an option to run “Cool Down” mode while driving which basically sets the cooling fans on highest setting which I’m assuming would help prevent the rapid increase in temps when underload, especially if your proactive about it.

I would be interested to see if anyone towing can or will try this out.

From the manual:
• Cooldown Mode: Press the right arrow and cruise cancel button at the same time to turn the engine fans on High. If the engine is off, the fans will turn off automatically if the battery voltage drops below 11V. Transmission temperature will read as 229F while this mode is being used with the engine running. (only works with the engine off on manual Jeeps)

Its already been done and its in this thread as well as others. It *might* prolong overheating, but it doesn't stop it.

I'd highly recommend reading the entire thread, but there is pages upon pages of useless posts like yours to weed through.......Ironic.

Perhaps you would like to suggest removing the hood, cutting out the Rubicon vents, aftermarket inner fenders, aftermarket angry grill, aftermarket radiator, gear change, manual shifting, or any of the other dead ends that are already in the thread?

Thanks for the endearing keyboard warrior comments. You’ve helped immensely and just so you know I did a search and nothing came up. Go search it yourself big guy.

I’ve read through a large portion of this thread and saw nothing mentioned about the taser mini cool down option.

Should I ask you for permission next time I can find something on the forum if I’m allowed to post.

Been awhile since visiting this post...mine was the second reply with a legacy account (had a security breach on my end).

In any case, I did install the Insane Diesel remote filter, with fabricated hardware, and a fan-boosted air/oil intercooler, similar to what Insane introduced sometime later. Pulled the 28' Airstream from here to Delores, CO, this past June. At 62 mph, oil temps did not exceed 242f on grade, average 235f. For me, the SB scoops, proper gearing, and the oil cooler, have allowed use of the rig without excessive heatup.

You are supposed to mellow with age, not go sour like milk. Wait until you get into your late 60's.

Did you do all of this at once or phase in? Curious what was a bigger contributor to reducing operating temps, cooler, gears, or just all done at once…. ??‍♂?

Welcome back? Ish? Lol sorry to hear about the account issue.

Well, the CliffNotes version is long and tedious. You have several complimentary problems with the Gen 3 Eco in the J platform, in terms of heat exchange; the cooling package - rad, CAC, condenser, etc. - has restricted airflow. There's not much you can do about that, except remove the bumper and grille facia. The turbo, EGR cooler, and oil cooler saddle the "normal" function of the cooling system, which is removing heat from the cylinder walls and head/exhaust valve seats and guides. There's where I focused my attention, because this engine, like many diesels, uses directed "p" tube oil jets to spray lube oil on the underside of the pistons, where intense heat is rapidly generated, especially under high-boost conditions. The aux oil cooler is one part of my solution. Underhood, I found that very high air temps "stagnate", which, in turn, leads to high air temps that enter the air cleaner. Take a look at that silicone boot; it basically chokes-off intake air. I trimmed the side and rear portion only, allowing cooler air, via SB hood scoops, to enter the intake stream. The rest is pretty basic stuff - lifted 4.5" with 27-13.50's, I replaced the factory 3.73 ratios with Spicer 4.56's. In my experience, 62 mph is the "magic" number for heavy towing, shifting manually when engaging grades.

When I'm solo, I pull with the Gladiator. However, the WK2 Ecodiesel is both more powerful, economical, comfortable, and easier with spouse and dogs. 18.6 vs 16.9 mpg.

All good, I responded too and apologize for my remarks! I’m with you on no patience…..Wyoming looks more appealing to move to because no one lives there!!!
