Tune and delete would be next being that warranty seems to be a non issue ??
I’m sure one could fined a person to the north to get it done ✅

Under warranty for 125k and live in CA with biannual smog inspections.

I can't imagine a Tune and delete would do much for heat?

Well, I started with an oil cooler. If this doesn't do enough, a large intercooler is next.
I kinda figured it would be a minute change. 2 qts might help increase the time it takes to derate, but the amount of oil flowing through a bypass system surely couldn't keep up with the heat pulled from the pistons during high loads.

Next potential issue is whether or not you voided your engine warranty by adding the additional equipment?

Adding oil coolers had been covered in court ad nauseum. They can't void for it.

Is the problem the size or the intercooler or the amount of air passing through it? We know Jeep cut the towing capacity because the air flow efficiency of the front grill (cooling).

But, there's people who have pulled the entire clip and fenders and didn't affect temps.

Truck definitely runs hot, I have seen oil temps of 217F in freezing weather 30ishF. Absolute normal driving, no idling or hotrodding. Just normal easy driving around country paved roads. I have not seen these oil temps with any other car I had.

You would be amazed what a tune can do for heat. Properly done they can substantially lower egts they can also “ depending on how the oil pressures and flow are controlled within the system “ increase pressure and flow. They can trigger the bypass valve to open sooner and direct flow to the cooler sooner ?? Trigger the fan to run at a higher rate sooner. The delete would potentially lower egts and engine coolant by deactivating the egr cooler and allowing the exhaust to be less restricted.
Not saying this is the best or only way to go as I am not educated on how the oil system is controlled on the gen 3. If it’s a simple mechanical pump with no real software control of flow then there is obviously not much a tune will do to control flow. But the other things I stated will still be in effect.

Just by removing items doesn't necessarily mean you increase flow over a surface. Directing air (controlling) flow does this in the most efficient way.

Correct, but my comment was to address that the clip is an issue. The best solution here could be scoops/ram air over specific areas, as well as in to a larger intercooler. But, there likely isn't even a place to put something like that. The engine compartment is far too small.

Sounds like methanol injection may be the cheap easy answer. I wouldn’t hate the bump in power and mileage either.

217 isnt much, really; especially for a turbo’d vehicle. My wrx regularly saw 215-217.

While I’m grateful for all the info in this thread, it has me super bummed.

I was seriously considering trading my Mojave for a JTRD, but it looks like my towing duties would put the diesel right in the danger zone.

I live in Reno and tow our boat to Lake Tahoe and a few other higher altitude lakes. Altitude, high summer temps, going up steeper inclines. FML

Question for those of you experiencing the derate… does it take time before it shuts down going up the steep inclines? My routes have decent inclines, but they are fairly short. Maybe a minute or two going up.

I was supposed to test drive the diesel today. Thinking about skipping it. I could always just regear the Mojave.
