I searched threads for a while and decided to post. I purchased a new to me 23 gladiator from a jeep dealer with less than 2000 miles. From the jump the ESS has not worked says not ready. When I asked the dealer when buying they simply said “some don’t work”. The jeep was near perfect exactly what I wanted and I hate ESS so…
There’s nothing plugged in under the dash (tazer) etc and none of the known (to me) defeats are done. ESS button lights when pushed. There is a curt trailer brake controller wired up. I unplugged it and no change (I did not unwire it just unplugged from connector). Battery at least main battery was checked and is fine. The only other electrical modification visible is a winch. The prior original owner obviously marked the owners manual in the ESS section. He was in his 70s, so I’m guessing he did something to defeat it. Or maybe it didn’t work and that’s why he marked the pages. Everything else works fine.
I don’t want it to work. I was looking at tazers and auto stop eliminators while doing the paperwork at the dealer lol. However it would be nice to know why it doesn’t work.
For background I work on my own vehicles and have owned 15 plus jeeps…so I’m fairly good at trouble shooting.
So after all that…the question is could I be missing something?
