Jeep Gladiator Explain This Weight Ticket To Me, Please F3E3AA77-B79C-4BBD-87F7-369A501774B5_4_5005_c
First, I've never had a vehicle weighed before.

Second, I'm starting to tow a 16 ft enclosed trailer loaded with a house full of stuff from Seattle to SoCal starting tomorrow in my totally stock 2020 Gladiator Rubicon automatic. My understanding is that it can tow 7,000 lbs.

The ticket (IF I understand it right) shows my truck weighing in at 6420 lbs ("Axle 1") - does that sound right?

I had 2 dogs weighing maybe 75 lbs total in it and an almost full tank of gas. No mods other than a small brush bar on factory steel bumper w/2 KC lights, and a rubber bed mat. It's possible I was standing on the scale at the time the weight was recorded. My nephew was inside the station asking it to be weighed. So I don't know exactly when the attendant "pushed the button."

Third, the ticket shows the trailer weighing 5280 lbs ("Axle 2"). It's a brand new trailer and mfg said it weighed 2200 lbs unloaded. So that's 3,080 lbs of stuff inside - sounds about right.

Total of the ticket indicates 11,700.

I'm confused because a Google search of "What does a 2020 Gladiator Rubicon weigh?" Answers 5,050 lbs. Gas, 75 lbs of dogs, a tank of gas, a rubber bed mat and a simple brush bar/lights doesnt add up to 1,370 lbs even if I was standing on the scale. I weigh 235 lbs.

Frankly, there are all sorts of weight numbers thrown around on the internet for a Gladiator. I know they're not all talking about a JTR but I think I'm fine for this haul though it is 1187 miles.

Most of what you're saying doesn't add up. If you want help reading a ticket... you should probably show us the ticket

My 2021 Mojave GVW is 6140 lbs., and my payload rating is 1129 lbs., as per my door sticker, so empty no gas mine is about 5011 lbs. ,going across a scale with wife, dog, full tank, recovery stuff, RSI cap, skid plate, ARB compressor mine was more like 5700lbs. Weight adds up quickly, I want to look at what I carry for recovery and thin it out a bit perhaps. I do tow a couple trailers, my travel trailer GVW is 4100 lbs, we are somewhere in the 3700 pound load I believe, and tows great......Jack

I tried, site would not let me.

But 6420 and 5280 DO “add up” to the 11,700. I rounded off those numbers but only a few pounds.

Anyway, too late. We’re in the road already in Olympia and it’s towing just fine. The Curt Echo blue tooth brake controller I’m using is working great too.

Ha! Site wouldn’t let me in my computer but allows it from my phone. Anyway, here it is.

These vehicles are pigs. Last time I ran a load of household trash to the dump, the attendant was going to charge me until I informed her my Gladiator weighed about 5100 pounds.

Yes so that weight tix says your truck is over weight by 200 pounds.

You need to weigh the truck by it's self.

You have two many variables going on, with dogs, kids etc.

Just you the truck full of fuel. Then take the truck and trailer back and reweigh them.

Subtract that truck weight from the total of the truck and trailer, this will give your the actual weight of the trailer.

Compare that to the axle 2 weight to see what the tongue load is.

My guess is your truck weighs more than you are guessing, say 5200.

5200-11700 from your first slip would be a trailer weight of 6500 for your trailer. Your axle weights for the trailer show off because the truck is carrying the tongue load for it, in this example 1220 pounds of tongue (axle 1 6420-5200 the weight of just the truck).

My guess is your truck weighs more than you think especially w dogs kids and stuff and your trailer is "bigger" than the dealer told you.

The weight scales are normally 3 platforms. It is best if you get the front on the first platform, the rear on the 2nd platform, and the trailer on the 3rd. Unhook the trailer if you have to so that it is on the 3rd platform.

Here is my ticket - Gladiator only. Rockhard bumper, winch, and a decked drawer system.

As the person said above, your truck is 6400, the trailer is 5280 + tongue which id imagine is around the 600 lb mark for a 6k trailer. Should have used a wdh but take it easy, stick to 65 or less and leave plenty of space and you should be fine.

Well it's all over now. I arrived at my destination, Atascadero, about an hour ago.

The tow went fine. There are places on the road that are REALLY bad due to semis being on them constantly. Other than that the tow was smooth. Even when there was a little wind.

I DID use a Weight Distributing Hitch. I think having the air bags installed would have been nice but not absolutely necessary.

When we weighed it the truck was on the forward-most platform, the trailer was on the second and nothing on the 3rd platform.

There were no "kids". An almost full tank of gas & 2 dogs that weigh about 75 lbs together. One is tiny, only weighs 11 lbs. The other one weighs a bit over 60lbs.

Yes, I did and it was with a weight distributing hitch so I don't know how that effects the tongue weight? But if what bleda2002 says is accurate and we deduct 600 lbs from the weigh station weight (is that what you do?) my truck weighed somewhere around 5800 lbs.

So I suppose I was ok, right? I'm alive and had no scary moments though there was one time when I thought I'd lost my nephew and passed to catch up I looked down and was almost at 90mph! Waay too damn fast and fortunately I didn't hit the brakes, I just let off and all returned to normal.
