I’m not trying to be a jerk, but you know how funny that sounds? The only thing it has trouble with is being a truck? It makes a nice big comfortable AWD vehicle is what you’re saying.
So, it's great till you need it to be a truck?
Well that's not exactly fair to say. The Lightning tows like a freight train. It honestly feels like the last HD diesel truck I had. So much power. And the storage onboard hauls great. Wife and I hauled a full bed load of equipment to Louisville and back, then down to Dale Hollow Lake area and back, a couple hours round trip each way. It's a fantastic truck.

It WILL tow long distance, it's just more of a pain because chargers are generally laid out in a way for vehicles to pull up to them, rather than along side them.

I use mine as a truck and tow heavy loads with it. I have towed several thousand lbs all over the SE. If I can’t tow a car on my car hauler or a 6x12 full of heavy antique furniture across several states then it’s useless as a truck to me. That’s my point.
My point was the Lightning is a better truck than the Gladiator at several things.

-Payload
-Hauling things in the bed
-Towing more weight

The only truck thing I can think of the Gladiator does better is towing range. Am I wrong?

No, you aren't wrong but you're also comparing apples to oranges. That's essentially a 1500-level truck with which the Gladiator isn't meant to be compared.

What's the towing range on a JT with 50% of its rated weight behind it? 160 miles? 180 miles tops? So yes that is better than 80-100 miles.

I think where a gas truck shines is that with the trailer still attached you can pull through a gas station, fill it up in 5 minutes, and hit the road again. Can't do that with an EV.

But out of the 20+ trucks of all sizes that I've had over the years, the Lightning is the 2nd best truck I've owned at doing truck things. My F-250 would be 1st. The Lightning really is better than people give it credit for.

I would argue that a Gladiator is a "1500-level" truck. Same payload as a Ram 1500, Chevy 1500, etc. Very close to same max towing capacity. Even the rear frame and suspension is adapted from the Ram 1500. I know this because I have swapped parts between my Ram 1500 and Gladiator before.

At least when compared to the Ram, 75% of Ram configurations tow more (often considerably more) than the Gladiator. 30% of them are over 10K pounds.

Around 60% of configurations have more payload than the Gladiator. It takes an extremely stripped down Sport to achieve the maximum potential of 1,700 ish pounds, but every Ram built is 1,680 or better. My mid level Sport S (with Max Tow, even) was only stickered for 1,470.

I say 'only'. It's been loaded that heavy more than once. It's a lot of weight for that truck.

Based off 2020 model year trucks as that is the chart I found quickly. A quick pulse check to '26 models says it's pretty close to the same.

https://www.murrayjeepram.ca/blog/ram-towing-charts/

Anyway. Yes the Gladiator does have the 'same' payload and 'same' towing capacity, but only if you are comparing the a very small percentage of Gladiators to a very large percentage of Rams.

I don't care either way - I just felt like looking at the numbers. I didn't look at GM. Maybe when I get bored again later.

On topic - I think the F150 EV is/was a cool truck. It's a bit unfortunate that it wouldn't even transport my tractor on an open trailer round trip between my two houses without needing to charge 10 miles from finishing the trip - but that's a well known limitation of batteries right now.

I think it's great for people that do 'truck stuff' up until 'truck stuff' means towing anything more than from the Home Depot 10 miles from your house, or the boat to the lake that's within eyeshot. Again, technological limitations - no fault of an otherwise great EV truck.

No doubt apples to oranges. Full size vs mid size. EV vs not EV. Different price.

The biggest similiarites are the bed and people calling them not trucks. 😆
