Any vehicle safety is all driver. You can have the safest vehicle on the road and there are idiots who can cause an accident driving those. On the other hand operating outside recommended “safe” limits with an excellent driver will never have an issue.

Ever go to Home Depot or Lowe's with your truck early in the morning. Park close to the front of the store and hold up 3 fingers out the window. And get 3 illegals jumping in the bed.

I avoid Home Depot for multiple reasons. Lowes on the other hand is great in that they support Veterans. And don't have the three finger business where I live. Haha

Yeah, they started a couple years ago. They used to offer it only twice a year and made you jump through hoops at the check out while Lowes was a no hassle experience all year round. And the home depot discount can be a hit or miss. Lowes discount is a little more consistent.

Lowes also has Veterans parking spots as a nice gesture.

That being said, check out Lowes parking lot on Memorial Day vs home depot.

Anyone want to spend their money at home depot, I've got nothing against them. As a Veteran, my choice is Lowes.

Was offered a pallet of tile leftover from large job. Lasting offer, all or none of it, 1,800 lbs as marked on the wrapped pallet.
I loaded forward as much as I could and drove almost 500 miles taking it easy. Did great and got over 20 mpg. Rode about a half inch off of the bump stops. I would not normally done this but wanted to report my experience. I am very impressed with the truck

I actually agree with both sides.

For many people this would be reckless. But for many more, they would take things slow, leave extra following distance and stay in the right lane. It could be done safely, though with greatly reduced margins.

I've had a ton in a half ton pickup. If you load it forward like the OP did, go easy and stop at the first sign of being tired, it's doable safely.

I've also towed a 10,000 boat in a 1500 series Chevy van that was rated for 3500 lbs back when I was young in invincible. THAT was dumb. Much less stable than the 1000 lb over weight truck. Which in actuality felt fine.

I've hauled some stupid loads in past in or on a few of my Jeeps to include quite a load of 24ft sticks of square tubing and angle iron c channel on roof of my XJ strapped down where it wouldn't shift or slide out on Thule roof bars. Not the stock roof rails. Had a buddy loan me his flatbed trailer to tow my other XJ home on, he said one of his other friends towed it with a S10 without a problem... FYI: B.S. My XJ would be hard pressed to stop that heavy ass trailer in a emergency. That was in flat lands of S.E. GA. I've hauled around 1000 lbs in my JT a time or so of bagged concrete and wood. No problem, I'd bet the stuff on and in my JT is close to that much or slightly more if including my R.T.T. full water tank and rest of camping stuff.
With all that loaded mine is about 1.5-2 in. off bump stops. Why I got airbags especially if or when I tow a trailer. A Max-Tow...
