Bruh. It's call Net Metering. Simple math. Here I am in January so far. 33 panels, 14.4kW.

The slave labor toxic waste nonsense is nonsense and I won't even address that fake news.

As for subsidies, you're flat out misinformed.

https://www.reuters.com/business/energy/biden-budget-target-us-fossil-fuel-subsidies-2023-03-09/

HOW MUCH ARE THEY WORTH?
Calculating the cost of U.S. subsidies for the fossil fuel industry is complex because the incentives stretch across the U.S. tax code, but estimates range from $10 to $50 billion per year.

It ain't ' basic tax writeoffs ' dude.

It sucks EVs became a political issue. There's nothing political about it. They're needed, and they're here to stay.

muh slave labor. lol

No, it is you who is misinformed. China employs slave labor in its rare earth mines, primarily Uighers.

Net metering means you are using the grid to recharge your EV.

33 modules and only 14.4kw? That's pretty sucky. How many years old is the system? .05% a year degradation has taken your 14.4 down from installation. Do you live in the desert? That will help, but if you are upper lattitudes that would add years to your repayment time.

Do you have a battery backup system?

My friend installs solar so I know quite a bit about it. Sadly, for where I live it doesn't pencil out.

rofl you don't appear to know anything about solar. 33 @ 14.4kW is excellent. I guess 'your friend' must have some magical 1000w panels or something.

Net Metering means my grid imports are offset by my net exports. I pay nothing at True Up. Never have. The car charges free.

One thing that is so odd is how triggered oil lovers get at EVs. I just use whats best. Gas Jeep for offroad, EV for commuting.

The person triggered is you. It is a fact that Ford loses 36k per truck. No company can survive that.

Pure EV's suck in almost every respect. Hybrids though seem to work quite well. They still have the battery manufacturing issues, but at least they work, and work well.

Yes, my mistake, you have 440kw modules, or there abouts. Those are pretty good.

Let’s let free people and free markets pick winners and losers.
Agreed. The government should stop subsidizing the oil industry, and quit bailing out and propping up the US automakers. Let's see which vehicles people choose when gas is $7-$8 a gallon like the rest of the world, and the US brands have to compete against the foreign brands without all the tariffs added on.

But oil is what backs the USD….. oh wait, we don’t want to go down the Silk Road discussion, and the country’s circumventing the trade of oil with gold vs usd. <- happening now but yet the usd continues to climb on the global stage…. I smell an 1983 USD devaluation on the horizon.

??‍♂ would still like to see hydrogen powered vehicles turn a new page and start making moves.

Good, I see a few of them around here, though not during the winter. One of my friends has an S and he loves it too.

Yes. The facts are that there is only one subsidy and that is to encourage drilling here in the USA.

The rest of the "subsidies" are normal tax write downs. The biggest one they want to try and take away is right now an oil company can write off a dry well drill.

Most people have no clue, but for every 25 wells that are drilled, one will actually produce oil. Those 24 other wells, drilled at a cost of millions, are a business loss. Currently they can write those off. The Biden admin REALLY wants to take that away.

The reality is if the oil companies stopped producing right now, in a week there would be chaos, and in a month there would be millions of people dead. That's a simple fact.

On the other hand, if you never produced another EV no one would notice.

I ain't proud of inanimate objects. Was counterpoint to ' EVs are useless '.

NEM 3 is trash. I expect it to be struck down. We will see. That said a big enough system can do it on weekends. Example I make near 60kWh on sunny days in winter. 90 in summer. Those days I'll use 25. Plenty of power to charge a 70kW battery over Sat/Sun if you arent a 100 mile a day commuter.

I don't recommend batteries to anyone until they're cheaper and have longer lives. I have 15 years of NEM 2 left. That's eons in solar tech inprovements.

Anyone who owns in socal and isn't shaded needs solar. Easy to get 12k/year savings if you own an EV and delete your gasoline and SDGE/PGE/SCE Bills.

The Court has already refused to overturn NEM 3. That was back in December of last year.

The lithium iron phosphate batteries have very long useful lives. Their only drawback is they are heavy.

There's 6 more. Shame about the Dec decision on that filed by the environmental groups.

If they could make the 4xE work better I'd trade in in a second next year. Would be insane to have free driving other than offroad trips. I'd use the Mojave more. It's 14.5mpg average I get means it sits in the driveway unless vacation or local offroad trips to the desert.

Might buy an NACS Lightning when they come. Awesome truck for nearly all half-ton truck needs.
