I get three free oil changes I was wondering if anyone tried to get a dealership to just give you the oil and filter so you could do it yourself?

The dealer gets paid, just not by you. They won't give you anything except the oil change.

BTW, don't know how anyone figures the oil changes are free when they shelled out $40,000+ for the vehicle.

They're "free" because going elsewhere and having the same thing done costs you money. Perhaps a better phrasing would be "included in the pricing" - but large firms like FCA have hordes of marketing teams that convince them into using the "free" terminology instead. ;)

The Jeep Wave changes are processed like warranty work. The dealership submits a claim and gets paid for doing the job. They are not going to give you anything but a place to wait while they change the oil.

My dealer includes two changes, with each car sold, to encourage use of their Service Department. I've had five done, and will get my last one the first part of July. I've already got oil and filters for the next four. I started watching Amazon for pricing right after I bought the truck .

Yeah, the dealership has to bill it out as doing the oil change and not just for the materials.

Too much liability of letting the customer walk off with oil and filter and then coming back on them if the owner screws up their oil change.

Just a shout out to all of you who plan to wait until 5,000 or higher to do your first oil change.
I changed mine today at about 2,000 and I was shocked at how black and thick the original oil was as it came out. This, of course is to be expected with all of the suspended particles that have been produced early in the engines break in period.

I can also tell you that changing oil on the Gladdy is the easiest of any vehicle I have owned in my 60 plus years. It was a pleasure.

So, the moral of this story is: Change it early and change it often!!!

My easiest is my Eagle. Pan under car, lay on floor or creeper, reach under and remove oil plug. Move pan slightly to under filter area while pan drains (don't move pan TOO far HAHA)
Now reach down right side of engine, unscrew filter, hold it upright with threads on top, go set it somewhere. New filter, reach down and screw it into place. Go back under car and put the drain plug back in, move pan from under car.
No jack needed, oil filter screws off and screws on by reaching over right fender to about 2/3 the way down the engine. Piece of cake. Even filling is simple as the fill hole is right up front with nothing in the way.
In fact I'd say most of my other vehicles would be slightly easier because of the cartridge use of the JT.

Yeah, I hear you.
It took me longer to scratch around and find the metric sockets than it did to change the oil, ha.
Even the filter cartridge is right up on top.
I may change it every week just because it is so easy. :giggle: :LOL:

My dealership is just far enough away it is a pain to get oil changed there. Did it twice but I'm over it. Went to CarX Friday but the wait was so freaking long I said screw it and ran to O'Reilly. No cheaper really and I have to futz with the oil until I'm ready to take the container for disposal but damn was that easy. I'd rather spend time under the truck than in a line.

I had the dealer do my first one as well. I still have the invoice somewhere and I believe the service would have cost over $100 or so retail. I usually use the best oil/filter in my vehicles but decided to let Jeep do the first one since the oil filter housing can be very tight from the factory.

That's what happens with me - my shop is full so I do JT work in my garage which is about 140 feet from my shop. I go grab a couple of tools and get back to the garage and oh, crap, wrong - try again.
