Not a fan of using the turbo vanes as a engine brake wear and tear on the engine and turbo and its always on. To be effective the engines really needs you to drop gears to increase the rpm. Breaking I have control and they are cheap.
You dont have to use the exhaust breaking (Just keep the RPM's down below 2500rpm) but it is an option if you want it, for instance if your towing trailer down a mountain pass. But respectfully, to each their own.

I have an old GDE deletes from way back in a 2015 Ram. It has preformed wonderful. I would love to have their delete in my 2022 jeep gladiator. If any one has an idea on how to get around their mileage and age. Let me know

Yeah the GDE engine brake is pretty cool. I don't think I've ever had it engage without manually downshifting, which is the idea I think. It's pretty much an invisible feature in normal daily driving.

You fill out a form, it's honor system. They can't tell how many miles you have.

Look on the bright side, the extra modulation of the vanes keeps them moving and prevents carbon/ash buildup and locking up the vanes :movember:

That's correct. Factory tuning relies on the transmission whereas GDE tuning utilizes transmission and engine braking simultaneously. Simply put, there's more control and better engine braking with GDE's engine brake option. Trust me, it's less nerve-racking when coming down a long steep mountain pass when towing the travel trailer.

Yes i appreciated having engine braking features when pulling an enclosed trailer around southern CO between dolores, telluride and montrose. So much single lane long up and down mountain grades...

Out of curiosity (excitement). Just did a 25 mile loop. Half up/down. Elevation change about 2500. Most change is in a 3 mile section.

EGT topped out high 1100’s.

Engine brake. Going with my original statement still applies. No change from auto to manual mode as far as aggressive.
My impression. It’s a system that is always on. It’s a combination of engine/tcu tune. Very subtle, smooth.

Engine oil topped out 7 degrees cooler Fan off. Before GDE normal max oil would be 239, oil cooler fan On.

Only 1 run. Normally I would do 2 or more and report an average.

What was your speed going up the hill with 1100 egt? towing or empty?

I wonder how often he gets a 2020+ vehicle with a claimed 160k miles and thinks to himself "yeah right"...

Just ticking a box for legality sake, I think everybody knows what's going on and they're not the ones assuming the risk...

That said, I've certainly had periods in my life where I averaged 35k miles a year on a vehicle over several sequential years. So I'm not sure how unrealistic it is. Still not exactly common.

There are a lot of 2020+ Rams with over 160,000 miles. From the ones I've been tracking, there are a few with over 300,000 miles. The Jeep guys are a different story, though. We don't see them used commercially like we do the Ram trucks.

We've got Ram guys are averaging 5,000 - 8,000 miles per month.

Absolutely, I'm speaking purely from a guy commuting and driving privately.

I know a pair of guys that tag-teamed hot-shotting and hit over 300k in something like 20 months on a from-new truck. Was a Cummins, though. And I don't know if they were strictly doing it legally or not. Not my world, out of my wheelhouse.

Your welcome. Your post’s regarding GDE is what gave me the confidence to drop more money on a tune.

Extremely happy I did!

So Thank You.
The tune sells itself, but more importantly, you're getting a very clean and efficient tune that hopefully results in a longer life engine. Green Diesel Engineering has taken apart high mileage engines to examine components and see what they can learn. His tuning is taking a lot of things into consideration, and longevity is one of those things.

As a fellow New Mexican and diesel enthusiast, I'm glad I can help. I push my trucks pretty hard throughout the mountain west and beyond, so I can appreciate good tuning and reliability. Granted, I've been running the GDE Complaint Tune, but the benefits are well documented.

At the end of the day, I want people to love their trucks as much as I do.
