I’m either fortunate or unfortunate to have the experience of both. Trying to focus on fortunate.

The short answer is GDE Afterlife.

A little backstory (maybe a lot). 21 JTR, 42’s, 60/80 axles, 5.13 gears, coil over all 4 corners w/bypass front, long arm suspension. I’m heavy. Built with less than 1000 miles on it. Zero issues for about the first 10,000 miles. 40” tires the first 20k’ish. 42’s not available.

Side note. I have owned 9 Diesels, purchased new for personal and business use since ‘01. JTR is the 10th. Never considered any type of modifications related to engine/trans before. I’m a speed limit, maybe plus 5 driver. When towing, speed limit, maybe minus 10 driver.

Than the derate’s started. Christmas dash occurring several times. Over the next several thousand miles I cured this problem with heat wrapping wiring harness, oil cooler, etc….
Next was DPF codes. Dealer said need new DPF, take 3 months, you might have to pay 3k for it. This was based on experience with the codes (I don’t remember codes) and my extreme modifications. 2nd dealer basically the same.
Not liking any of those options. EOC was less expensive with no down time. I was driving 200 miles a day when this happened.
EOC did what they said. Didn’t have any of the communication problems that some report. Just a little patience is what is needed with them (48 hours was normal response time).
The trans tune was most noticeable, better. I asked for the cleanest most reliable.
The next problem was, I Believe due to heat soak, engine codes popping up after about 6 hours of wheeling. No issues on the highway.
I’ve never been stranded by the Jeep. Well except for the alternator going out.

Fast forward many many thousand miles. Me itching for Moab, Rubicon type adventures the wife says not until we can do at least a one day trip in the forest without an engine code popping up. I can’t really disagree with idea. Although I did. This no engine code idea still hasn’t happened, nor Moab or the Rubicon.

During the many many miles era. I installed a high flow diesel cat to help with the exhaust fumes.

Several weeks back I qualified for the GDE afterlife tune. Than a few weeks back I got an emissions related engine code(possibly the cat). Didn’t want to spend the money. However the current set up wasn’t working.

GDE Afterlife tune has only been installed for a week. The difference so far is night and day. I thought the EOC was good. The GDE makes it look bad.
The description on GDE website is perfect. Once driven the description makes even more sense. I’m feeling like this will solve the remaining heat soak issue. Time will tell. A few trips to the mountains in the next few weeks are planned.
I also went with 190 t-stat. So far it is cooler during normal driving. I did a short grade for testing….not a huge difference. Maybe 5 degrees less.

Would you mind describing the differences you see between the GDE Afterlife tune and EOC? I'm on EOC stage 2 with transmission tune and the description for the Afterlife tune sounds a lot like my current setup. I am not being negative but am genuinely curious what is different between the two. I am currently on the EOC tow tune and I have no issue unless towing. When towing, I get around the heat issue by downshifting. So far that has worked but if there is another way, I'm definitely interested

I've had both and preferred the way the GDE tune drove, but I wanted to delete so went to MRTuning (EOC.)

They list tunes for removing individual components on their site but I wonder if they'll just do a tune to remove all of it... in which case, I might send them my ECU again.

Don’t want to seem like I’m bashing EOC. It was what I could get and it worked. I had it installed for three years.
The only complaint from the beginning with EOC was the exhaust fumes. It was bad. Like on the trail, everyone behind me complained. Had a neighbor knock on my door to complain, then apologized because she loved my Jeep.
That’s why the CAT was installed. It did help. I still couldn’t leave it running when hooking up the trailer in my garage. Other members have told me the same when comparing notes.

The exhaust fumes with GDE is way better. My first test was to hook up the trailer leaving it running. No complaints from anyone or me. Didn’t need to leave all the doors open to air out. Similar to my early 2000’s Duramax.

GDE: My best comparison to other vehicles I have owned. ‘04 3/4 ton 8.1 gas Suburban most similar. ‘14 VW Touareg 3.0 TDI next closest.

I’ll post more as time allows.

Just placed my order with GDE for a re-tune on my spare PCM. I'll do some back to back pulls to compare performance. Otherwise, performance isn't my main concern it's just longevity, but I feel the two go hand in hand by a good tuner.

GDE: My comparison to other vehicles owned is in regards to engine/transmission response.
No guessing. Just very responsive. With the power to make it happen. Naturally quick. Little effort. No stress.
Generally speaking. A 1/4” of pedal equals 2000 rpm shifting through the gears rapidly. Add another 1/4” of pedal it becomes 2500 rpm and so on. Trans tune matches the torque curve.
I live in the mountains. Lots of 90 degree plus corners (25mph type mostly). Let off the gas to slow, back on the gas coming out. The tune is right where you want it be, without hesitation at all times.
GDE started over from scratch with the tune. Changing the driving experience.
Everything sounds better. Starting, driving, cooling off before shut down. The HPFP whine is 90% less after shut down.

EOC: I was happy just like I was with the factory tune till it didn’t work. In hindsight the EOC is just expanding on the factory tune with more power. GDE starts over.

Question......can you do a delete with the GDE Afterlife tune? And at what mileage do you need to be at for the Afterlife tune? Their website doesn't show it.

For the Gladiator/Wrangler platform. Afterlife is 10 years or 150,000 miles. Full delete is a $100 option. I have full delete starting with EOC.
The website does show it. In the add to cart section. An odometer form must be completed and submitted with your order. One of the drop down windows.

Edit: 15 years or 150000.

Having run both an EOC and an intact GDE tune this is my impression as well.

Tier 3 is 15 yrs or 150,00 miles. Hmmm.......I'm at 80,000+ miles on a 2022 MY. Would it be worth it to lie on the form? LOL

I’m wondering that same thing. Problem is I’m much more comfortable going around regs than lying.

Quick vs Quick: Not my thing. No actual times. Just how it feels in the seat.
Short answer: GDE. No question. Acceleration is quicker and smoother in Every condition.
My only example is. I have a spot on my drive to work that allows me to go WOT for 3 to 5 seconds from a starting roll. I do this to clean it out. Haha. GDE is the 3 second. EOC was the 5 seconds. Run out of room a whole lot quicker with the GDE.

For reference: I never had a derate event due to oil temps/coolant temps reaching the limit. The highest oil temp ever seen was 252 during testing. WOT for
Most of a 2.5 mile 6% grade. Coolant was in the 230’s.

Power vs Power: This is my thing. Have done enough testing to say….
GDE. No question. Does all the same things better as previously described. Noticeable difference is doing the same thing in the next higher gear with less effort than EOC in a lower gear.
For reference. I tow a 4k off road trailer

Engine temps vs Engine temps: This is what matters. Time will tell. Need to get off road to verify. Early impressions are good.

Thoughts. Somebody with more knowledge could/please verify.
I don’t think the Best tune should have an option when it comes to HP and Torque. Should be a completely different tune including the trans tune.

A questions on the GDE compliant tune.
I have a Tazar if I send in a new cloned ecm to have the compliant tune done any issues using the features?
I have start stop disabled and use the Fan on feature. I can't see spending $50 extra to disable the start stop.
I assume running a EGT gauge becomes mandatory? If so options that don't break the bank.

Thinking it would all be the same. I have an IDash, nothing changed. IDash and Tazar plug into the same place.
Monitoring anything is not mandatory. I asked this question before installing. All the safeties are still in the tune.
