Just wanted to add something. We have heard of a couple people that have done gear changes with the factory diff covers and had overheating problems resulting in damage and re gearing a second time. They then were informed it was recommended to increase fluid capacity with aftermarket covers that have cooling fins as well. It may be a good idea to add that into the cost as well. Others with personal experience may also have some input on this.
It is NOT the diff cover that is the problem.

With your area…I’d be surprised if you’d be happy with 35’s and 4.10’s for long. It’s livable to me (I have 315/70-17’s) in flat areas with a few hills. Steep grades…it’s pretty gutless. If I lived in the mountains, I probably would have re-geared by now.

Those prices seem really steep for just a re-gear. What else are you adding to the ticket to get there?

Our re-gear price here in TX has been $2500 for a while, including gears, master install kits, fluids, labor, etc. I include a 500 fluid change as well in that price.

Have you talked to Brennan at CORE Off Road? If not, reach out and tell him Uncle Marcus sent you. lol

Thanks for the input guys. I talked to a very knowledgeable shop who does Jeep builds and they quoted me under 3k. This included all gearing, fluids, 500mi inspection, labor. They were a pleasure to talk with and have years of Jeep and fabrication experience.

We get them done at 4wheel parts in Loveland around $2,000 maybe a little less they've done a bunch for us no problems and great warranty. Good guy's to deal with
They have done a couple Jeeps for me in the past- they used to be around $1500-$1800 a few years ago, just received a quote for my JT and it was $3500. I was blown away on how much they are charging now.

I have 35s and 4.10s on my JTR and hate it. I'm going to 5.13s.

I'll have $4,000 in my regear.
$1,000 in the spicer gears and rebuild kits
$3,000 in a two post lift because I don't want to roll around on the ground anymore.

?. You sound like me. I could spend $10,000 on shitty furniture, ORRRR.... I could spend $10k on woodworking equipment that I've been wanting anyways, build my own higher quality furniture, and still have the equipment leftover when I'm done.

Years later, house still pretty void of major furniture and still no equipment in my shop.

It would be nice to put together a directory based on location, price, and quality of work. It seems the best place to be, which makes sense, for a regear is probably Colorado. And though I haven't seen it mentioned, I'd guess Utah has plenty of shops as well. I'm in Illinois and haven't seen a mention of any shops near me. I emailed a place in Missouri called axleboy and hope to hear from them next week. I've got a Willy's 3.6 and would like to got to 37"s but won't do it without a regear. I figure if I go to 35"s, I might as well just go to 37"s. While I'm at it, a rear locker seems like a "why wouldn't you" with the diff apart and so much overlapping labor. We'll see, I guess.
