So jealous of this!! I can’t even fit one vehicle in my 20x20 two car garage and I don’t have the land to build a big one. Some day though along with a boat ;-)

cheers

Where in Iowa did you have the work done and are satisfied with it?

It would be nice to put together a directory based on location, price, and quality of work. It seems the best place to be, which makes sense, for a regear is probably Colorado. And though I haven't seen it mentioned, I'd guess Utah has plenty of shops as well. I'm in Illinois and haven't seen a mention of any shops near me. I emailed a place in Missouri called axleboy and hope to hear from them next week. I've got a Willy's 3.6 and would like to got to 37"s but won't do it without a regear. I figure if I go to 35"s, I might as well just go to 37"s. While I'm at it, a rear locker seems like a "why wouldn't you" with the diff apart and so much overlapping labor. We'll see, I guess.

I agree we should have a stickied thread in this section with locations quality of work and price. I have searched here and on the JL forum for reputable installers in MO, IA, and NE, and have found many older threads or locations out of my area.

I'm in the Quad Cities. I normally go to Sport Truck Specialties in Davenport for stuff like this. They don't do gearing in-house but recommended this guy(local). I'm very happy with the work. Zero issues.. I'm ~18k miles with the gears now.

I know this topic has been addressed and best to death, but I’m hoping for some feedback.

I recently did something I thought I’d never do; I traded my built 5th gen 4Runner for a 2020 Mojave. The Mojave is in incredible condition, I scrutinized and looked over it in detail prior to purchasing.

Its setup on Mickey Thompson Baja Boss MT’s (37x12.5x17) on Fuel wheels running what looks like a -18 offset. The truck drives amazing and I’m pretty happy about the switch.

All that being said I’m looking at a Regear (5:13) for here in the Rocky Mountains. I’ve gotten two quotes from very reputable Jeep shops in the area. Both were between 4-5K. This seemed incredibly high based on my research and I’m debating just moving to a 35 on the OE 4.10 gearing.

Thoughts?

Ive been looking around also. Man, $5K for gears is a RIPOFF!!! From what I've read, it like a 5-6 hour job. Figure the avg going rate of $150 hr x 6 = $900 approx labor. The gears around around $1K. Gotta ask yourself, WHAT are they doing to charge so much???

The guy that runs the JK Gear and Gadgets YouTube channel just had his Yukon 5.13s fail in his JT.
He said several people contacted him that had similar issues. I am about to pull the trigger on a set of Yukon 5.13s (they currently have a $175 rebate).

Curious if anyone else has had issues.

I've heard a lot of people have been having issues with the Yukons in the Advantek D44s. No idea what the true problem is, but I've heard that quality fell off years ago and I've also heard that they still sell regular D44 gears in place of Advantek-specific gears, which apparently are different.

My shop said they won't touch Yukon's for just this reason, so make sure if you buy them you have a way to get them installed by a reputable shop that will back the Yukon warranty and help you with that process. I'd ignore the rebate and get a more reliable brand.

Well save those rebates........because you're going to pay to do it again in under 20,000 miles.

All of the quality shops in my area are done with Yukon Gear and Axle, they won't sell or install them.

Mine in my build Tahoe failed in 11,000 miles.

Gents probably a dumb question so I just purchased LT37x12.5R1-17 baja boss. I know I should and will regear.
Until then my thoughts were to throw the 37s on when going to wheel .Then switch back to daily drivers 35s. .
The question is will the off road performance be effected not regearing or should I wheel and daily drive with the 35s until regearing ?

I'm going with a regear of 4.88s. I figure if I chose to go with 5.13s the price wouldn't be drastically different. Quote received yesterday was $2305.11 (Revolution Gear & Axle D44/D44R Gear package - JT: 4.88s + labor).

I am running Dana Spicer 5:13s with 37s for 35K miles now. Lots of off-roading and Rock Crawling. They are quiet as a mouse. You do not hear bad stories about Dana Spicer gears, and they are already broken in from the factory. I only got a small amount of steel powder from mine the first 500 miles.

You'll be fine with 37s and off-roading until you regear, it will be a dog to get up hill climbs and what not, but as long as you aren't going to extreme, again you'll be fine.

I have the Revolution gears (5.13), very similar price for gears + labor from my shop. Gears are great so far btw, think you'll be pleased.

A manual with 37"s might as well be a 4 speed, lol... a functional 5th and 6th is like a faded memory. Would be nice to get those back plus a little more pep overall. I was so close to going with 5.13s, after admitting to myself that my future off-road adventures will be minimal at best, figured 4.88s was the better option for my scenario.

Have to ask. What does W.T.F.D.I.G.M. (in your Avatar) stand for?

The full acronym has another I at the end.
