First major accident this morning, driver ran the light and I was able to avoid a hit to the cab and the right rear and wheels took a hit from around 40mph. Everyone is OK and walked away fine. Obviously I am concerned about possible frame damage, anything else I should look for when the shop prepares the estimate? They will be doing frame measurements tomorrow, more concerned about any possible long term issues assuming I will have to take the truck back post repair…

Looks like the bed got pushed forward some. I would make sure it didnt contact the cab. From the looks of the other car it appears to have been a pretty solid and hard hit :-(

Although I might have stayed in a Holiday inn express, the body shop experts are the ones who can see the extent of the damage.

Glad you are ok.

Looks like wheel, bent axle, and above mentioned bed movement...

Glad everyone is ok. I would just make sure they do a multiple spot frame measurement. The rear rails might have moved and if its at or in front of rear axle and not straightened correctly you will have 4 wheel alignment issues and tire issues down the road. Looks like the Jt held up pretty dang!! Good luck getting it fixed and back on the road

Man, I swear since Covid, everyone has started running reds all over the country. I don't remember it being as bad pre-covid, and now every single light I'm at has 2 or 3 cars running a red right as it turns red.

Sorry it happened to you. I finally just invested in a dashcam after a few close calls from red light runners.

vehicles can be fixed or replaced. they're just "stuff" we have in our lives. glad you are OK.

the bigger pain is dealing with the insurance companies during the aftermath.

Agree with the above. Also the hassle to wait for your repairs. I remember this past winter that repairs were 3 to 4 month waits because of short staffs and repair parts not in stock.

Yep, bad here too. I have a dash cam in the truck, trying to convince wife she needs it in her car too...

very similar situation….homie ran a red and hit me. I had extensive frame damage. Took it to a shop that does chassis work for race cars. Frame was replaced and everything is as good as new. I had a body shop do the rest of the work.

don’t take no for an answer from your insurance company or the at fault company.

and don’t forget about diminished value. Not only did I have mine fixed… I walked away with a very heavy check.

the Mojave is now my dedicated beach rig and I used the diminished value check as a down payment on another vehicle

What he said.......
Do look for bent axles, axle tubes loose in the center housing, bent axle tubes, cracked housings, that sort of thing. I had a F250 that was never the same after a hit to the left front wheel - it "aligned fine" but the steering knuckle was bent in such a way that TooT was off - Toe Out On Turns - so it squealed going around tight corners. That's not always checked and too many shops and techs just look at basics, instead of ALL possible angles.

There's so many threads asking for what's broken, can it be fixed and so on - my only bit is - all anyone can do from the chair they sit in while looking at pics on a tiny screen is speculate. Few are actual technicians, and I don't know of any insurance adjusters here.
All that can be done is a list of possibles, which will be the same with pretty much any accident.

First I'd be armed with information such as when does YOUR state consider a vehicle as totaled (each state varies!) and know the value of your truck as it sat 1 minute before the accident.
Make notes, get names and numbers, don't sign the back of a check too quickly.
If it's repaired, the other party should pay not only for repairs but the loss of the value to the vehicle - or likely loss. That, too, is up to debate and speculation as each situation will be different - depending on the damage and the condition of your vehicle and value before the accident.

Bottom line - it's a big hassle, but better the truck take the hit than you or your family.
