The JT gets such shitty mileage and has such a small tank that we all have far less concerns about gas going bad than other less fortunate people ...

Well, that depends on your point of view. One reason (out of many) that the JT is my first Jeep, is the great mileage it gets, compared to all Jeep prior to the JL.

And, of course, it also depends on how much mods one does. And how you drive it.

The mileage is brutal and the least they could have done is put in a bigger tank.

Aerodynamics of a brick. Of course the fuel economy is not going to be that good. If I just wanted a mid-sized pickup I'd have bought a Tacoma. But I wanted something I can take the doors and top off while towing my bass boat. So I bought a JT.

I don't think the fuel economy is that bad though. I averaged 19.4 MPG on a 750 mile round trip through the mountains of West Virginia. That's pretty dang good in my opinion.

my JK was 18 on a good day, stock. 13 once on 35s.

wife’s QX is 12 in the city and 17 on the highway.

I had a 31 foot Class C motorhome .. Weighed 19,000 pounds or so ... Now that is a cinder block as opposed to a brick ...

That thing had a ford V10 engine and a 55 gallon tank ...

On a perfect day if keeping it at 55 or 60 that thing would see 9-10MPG ...

My JT sees 15.5 locally and 17-18 on the highway at 70 on winter gas. It sees 19+ (never 20) on summer gas at 65-70 ...

Now its a Mojave with MT tires and stock lift of 1 inch ... But mercy, this 15 locally hurts !!!

I dunno, maybe its good compared to some other things .. If it were "good" Id have hoped to see maybe 20 consistently ...

But this is my first world problem I guess ... Im driving around in a 50k truck, so maybe I should shut up ....

Im happy though and wouldnt change a thing ...

That is the one jeep (no lift, smaller tires, Highway tread) that may have those numbers ... Thats great for you ...

Sports with a little lift, AT or MT tires, Rubicon, Mojave, do not get that mileage ...

I know. My only point was that no, the JT isn't an economy car, but compared to previous Jeeps, there is a reason to buy it for it's fuel savings.

I am using E10 as recommended here in Australia which is 94 octane. I am struggling to get below 20L/100km which equates to 11.76 US mpg. I don't drive erratically. Most of the driving is around town at around 50 - 60 km/h. I find the gearing seems to hold the revs too high also e.g. go up a hill then over the brow and it doesn't change up and ends up doing about 5000revs. for no reason. On a long trip cannot get below 15L/100km or 15.68 US mpg. Any tips would be appreciated.

Nah. I might run a tank of premium once a year, but I'm sure I'm wasting my money lol

I do this as well for the "extra detergents" to help clean the engine just that much more. Not sure it helps, but I do it. I run almost exclusively Shell, or BP if I can't find Shell and that is close. I try to do only top tier gas.

Shell 87 and a constant 22 mpg. Now at 5k miles. What am I doing right? Overland with auto.

From the 2021 JT owners manual page 484. The engine is controlled by a computer which is programmed and optimized to work with 87 octane. There is no benefit with higher octane like there was back in the day with carbureted engines.

" 3.6L ENGINE - This engine is designed to meet all emissions regulations and provide excellent fuel economy and performance when using high-quality unleaded “Regular” gasoline having an octane rating of 87 as specified by the (R+M)/ 2 method. The use of higher octane “Premium” gasoline will not provide any benefit over “Regular” gasoline in these engines. "
