No it’s plastic. I did get an estimate from good body shop. That Rivian is aluminum.

That was some commitment on his part. Most people would stop going backwards when they heard the sound.??

there's something to be said for which part hit which part. you mash the flat side of your bed against a sharp angle on another vehicle, you're going to see a similar story in reverse.

that being said, it wont be as bad. Steel bed will always hold up better than aluminum.

Gotta ask - anyone think this is news or amazing? A thin sheet metal body part, fairly flat, not a lot of angle or curve to give it strength, hits a piece of angled steel close to a frame and which one gets damaged.
I'll put it this way - had that same Rivian hit my SX4 bumper in the same way - he'd have MORE damage because my SX4 bumper is actually stronger than a Jeep stock "plastic" bumper.
It's a given - hit a bumper with a flat panel - guess who loses.

This is a DUH moment it's physics, materials, design. The panel with angles and curves wins if the Jeep had backed into the bumper on any other truck, same thing.

Probably an idiot distracted driver messing with his phone or radio and never heard the sound of crumpling foil.

Rivian R1T (the truck) owners have complained about that unintended rear “crumple zone” since it came out. It’s particularly vulnerable because the current Rivian design doesn’t have bumpers - ...well, real ones anyway. They were supposed to come out with an “off road bumper with integrated winch” at one point. They also had this cool slide out camp kitchen in their advertisements for a while, which has disappeared. Their stock is down roughly 90% from where they went public in November 2021. They have problems.

If you watch many YT vids of JT’s coming off ledges you’d see they have quite a bit of flex…just like the jl’s.
