How many of y'all have applied for your GMRS license with the FCC?

I just applied for mine and my radio is in route. Starting out with a Midland MX275 (15w) and antenna package. Like everything else, with do time I'm sure I'll upgrade to a 50w radio.

Here in the MD, VA, PA and DE are there appears to be a fair amount of Jeepers using GMRS. Being I work for the Goberment, I wanted to ensure I'm doing it all by the book. In previous work roles I have had to work with the FCC and I know they do not play around.

No concerns. Did plenty of work in comms while in the military.

Just looking for everyone's thoughts and experience. I know there are some rogue users out there w/o a license.
If you use the channel encryption option and you'll be fine, I doubt you will hear from anyone other than those using same encryption. Just keep your call sign with you and your good for public non private stuff.

I paid the license for the same reasons as you since I am currently a federal employee. However, I have never transmitted my call sign while using GMRS.
Yeah I was curious on how strict they were about announcing your call sign. I know what the right answer is, but common practices may vary.

BTW what was your MOS?

We never use our call signs, have also never heard anyone else use theirs ... but we also do not use repeaters. Just rig to rig.

same boat here too. there is a little booklet from the fcc on what your supposed to do/not do but unless somebody is doing some super sketch stuff or having a lot of flagged conversations I doubt the fcc would investigate or do anything else, even on repeater channels

Encryption is not legal to use on GRMS or FRS, that will get you noticed and turned in fast. I can also tell you first hand that if you cause enough problems on GMRS the FCC will visit you.

Oh I have no doubt of that.

They like to issue fines almost as much as DOT

I guess encrypted is the wrong wording, privacy settings more like, Midland sells them pre set... ?

I got the GMRS license before the radio arrived.

Initially I was planning on getting a HAM license. Got the book and everything to start preparing for it. Then work, family, etc... and never got to it... That was back in 2019.

I still want to get the HAM license but no rush now... I will get the latest edition of the manual when the time comes...

I just went with GMRS for the ease of set up and usage.

Days of tuning antennas and dialing channels/Freqs in is over for me. I'll save my bandwidth for other tasks or things I enjoy LOL

Our club transitioned from CB to FRS a few years ago. I personally have a FCC license in case I need to transmit on the GMRS frequencies, but for the most part I stay on FRS channels. There are only a handful of people in our club that have the FCC license, and even fewer with HAM licenses.
