I just checked while cold 4000 miles since last change and full still and perfectly clean, thankfully. When I read this last night, i couldn't wait to go check as I had a Mazda 6 that burned oil bad, no good.

Maybe I missed it OP. How long did you let it sit before checking the oil? A few times I've checked my oil and it appeared to be low. I let it sit, checked it later and it was fine.

Try checking it in the morning before your first drive.

I've been using Mobil 1 in some of my other stuff - most recently and now specifically in my semi-performance 4.0 in my little Eagle. I first started the engine with it so that's what has been in it for years and thousands of miles (well, with the necessary oil changes, anyway!)
No leaks, no oil burning, starts and runs great, runs cool, decent mpg all things considered (meaning how I drive it)
But with the newer standards having been introduced and some oils moving up the chain, I think I'll be moving my Jeep to 5W30 Quaker State “Full Synthetic” as it meets ILSAC GF-6A, API SP and is supposed to help mitigate ping caused by oil in the chamber. It's got a really high pressure test.

While everyone else is watching some games on TV, I'm reading tech books, service bulletins, patents and so on.
I read of kindred spirit on activities. I would spend hours reading about any and all manuals that I could in Army. The problem I found that it was intimidating to "leaders" that was in positions over me. Not helping is that I strongly dislike people who act like they know something that they don't and push B.S.

I had to be really careful, especially in IT, because the powers that be were so sure their people had been doing a great job. Twice I ended up going way over heads. In one case I proved my theories and research by quietly applying my changes to a small 2 person remote office. Another - I resolved major network issues but ended up getting my boss fired in the process because he insisted to his boss he knew what he was doing and I was wrong. His boss called me in and asked for my theories, I had communicated with Netware engineers who agreed with me and showed the emails. I totally restructured the network for Compressor Controls but some weren't happy because to get the fix in, it had to leap over the chain of command. Luckily it wasn't military!

So you might suggest that I definitely do not trade my truck for a 2022 as I might end up with an oil burner? Keep mine because it has never been down a quart between changes? I'll tell my wife this is the last Grand Cherokee she'll ever own because all the others are oil burners.
I guess it's time for a Prius, they can't burn much oil, can they? On the other hand, they take over 4 quarts, so maybe that extra half quart over 4 is because they'll burn it?
Late to the game, but I have a 2022 JTR, MT 3.6L and I changed the oil at 2224 mi. At 5223 mi, 1/4 qt low, used Pennzoil Platinum synthetic 0W20. Drive short drives, freeway, and off road including in 4Lo off-road twice on that oil change. Retired and don't commute. None of my Tacomas, both 2nd and 3rd generation ever burned a drop, but it's a Jeep not a Toyota.

My point is that trading for a 2022 might not make any difference. I don't like that after the first oil change at about 3000 miles I've dropped a 1/4 qt., but that's life. I doubt my dealer, which I've lamented before will give a shit. While I don't have the impressive qualifications that Bill has, I did tear down and rebuild engines and build Chevys in the 60s for drag racing (I won about 50% of the time on the street and strip in So Cal), was first in my class in Marine tracked vehicle maintenance school probably because of that, but just do routine maintenance now. I'd rather have my JTR engine use no oil, but that's not in the cards. I'm waiting for a PHEV Gladiator anyway.

1/4 quart at 3K miles is really not much. I have owned a handful of Pentastar vehicles and they really do not fully settle in until around the 10K mile mark.

Engines will consume SOME oil. It's nearly impossible to have a cylinder wall lined with a thin film of oil, and have rings simply glide over the top of that film, never pushing any upward, and never having any pulled in via the lower pressure of the intake stroke.

That being said, we've never had a Pentastar engine that required any oil between changes, and both of my JTs would go between changes and still read at the top of the normal range.
My 2022 has over 6,000 miles on it now, much of that a trip to FL and back (with my wife driving - it saw a lot of high mph and high rpm use).
It was changed before the trip at 2,000 miles as I wanted to be really sure..... and have things looked over before leaving.
I checked the oil yesterday while doing the electric work for the under-hood 12v outlet and considering 4,000 miles on this oil, it's still "full". What it needs could be measured in my wife's kitchen measuring cups - the fractional cup measuring cups. It might be 4 or so ounces low.

My experience with the 2020 was that it didn't really come alive and get its best mpg until after about 7,000 miles, so that lines up with hootbro's comments.
And frankly, most of the new vehicles I've owned, I could tell things were different as they approached the 10,000 mark. My new AMX way back when - 10,000 miles and it was very different - more peppy, better mpg and so on.

1/4 quart at 3,000 miles is nothing. Even some of the high end auto makers won't talk to you about oil consumption unless it's over a quart in what, 2,000 miles?

I've got 60,200 miles on mine and I've not noticed any oil being used at all or if it is it's not enough to notice. My old 2010 JKU use to burn about 2 to 3 quarts ever 6,000 miles though.

This isn't meant to be sarcastic or anything like that at all - seriously - congrats on the miles and the enjoyment of that truck. Even if I had kept my 2020, it would likely only be 35,000 miles. There's just no place to go much, and no commuting for work, and this past year saw my health keep me home from a couple of planned trips. Cool that you've been using yours and it's a good fit.

I appreciate that. Yeah I really don't do much off road stuff any more but I do use it as a truck and I do enjoy taking the top off of it and doors off and riding around. Currently remodeling our house and I've hauled of ton tile and flooring off in it and been able to get most of my OSB and stuff in the bed of it which is nice. Couldn't of did that stuff in my old JKU so it's the best of both worlds for me.

2020 Sport S at the first oil change it was 1/2 quart low 7500 miles. Currently 54,000 never used that much again. Out of state presently 6,000 on current oil change and not a 1/4 quart low.
