Heated steering wheel stopped working, light comes on for 2-3 seconds then goes off, read it is not that uncommon in JL forum, apparently the wheel needs to be replaced, JT is 1.5 years old with 26k miles, dread having to take it to the dealer. First time for repairs.

Most warranty repairs have to be billed out to corporate as a one for one replacement. Opens up liability if they do not put a same part replacement back in.

Was going to take it in to have the steering wheel checked so I tried it again today, been a few months since I had, it worked so I guess I will just turn it on from time to time and see if it stops again, have 30k miles so getting close, also 3 years in August.

I had same issue and it was a module needed to be replaced at about 22,000. It took about 5 or 6 weeks and I had to get Jeep Cares involved.

Had a rental recently that would only turn on under 50 degrees. Thought jeep had a similar setting ?

So my heated steering wheel stopped working again a few months ago, at 50k miles now, popped off in he airbag and determined the wiring harness for the steering wheel was burned. I have a new wheel and harness but the plug for the heat is melted together so I may need to buy a steering column module also, I am tempted to try and force it apart but I do not know what else might get damaged if the heat connector is near something else in the module. The steering column control module is around $275, apparently this is what used to be know as the clock spring. Curious if anyone has changed one yet on their JT.
pics of the burned connectors.

Mine barely gets warm. Took it to the dealer and they told me "works as designed" and "varies with the outside temp". Total BS.

Update on my heated steering wheel issue. I replaced the steering column control module/clock spring and steering wheel harness today, wasn't too bad took a couple hours. Everything was pretty straightforward, the steering wheel harness has to be routed a certain way. Tested it out and the heat and everything else work now.

Mine just started intermittently working... Ugh! Debating whether I want to tackle this myself or just pay the man.

It is a pretty straight forward remove and replace, you can easily determine if it is the wiring like mine, just disconnect the power and remove the air bag.

Hey Mac. I'm trying to add hated steering to my gladiator and I was wondering if you could tell me the part number for the steering column control module that you used.

You need the harness and the column, the column part number is 68599296aa the harness part number is 68400792ab. You will need both as the column has the connector for the wiring for the heat.
