The Taser kills it. I made a lot of changes with my Taser. However, even though I hate the beeping, I left it on for the rare occasion I get distracted and don’t turn the car off. More of a problem with my wife’s car since it is "push a button to park then push a button to turn off the car". Too many button pushes for me—getting used to one almost blew my brain.
Yeah, it's necessary with my son driving my JT now and then. He's used to just getting out and the vehicle goes into park and shuts down (his EV, that is)
And honestly, I have actually walked away while mine was running - crap, forgot to shut it off.

I tried that - did nothing about leaving it running, taking the fob with you and closing the door. I just never leave it running, no matter what, or if it's in my own driveway, I just don't close the door.
I found that setting in JSCAN a couple of years ago and tried it - didn't stop the 3 quick honks when taking the fob out of a running vehicle.

My 2020 never did that. My 2022 does.
I compared settings - they are identical for both vehicles, that setting was the same for the 2020 as the 2022, and yet the 20 never honked, the 22 does.
??‍♂ I can’t speak to all of the variations/years. This worked for our 22jtrd and 23 jtrd.

This gives me some hope. I'm going to see if I can find and change it with AlfaOBD.
The only thing that stopped the horn when getting out of my running 2022 was a Tazer. I still use Jscan for almost everything else but finally broke down and got a Tazer just to stop the honks. Opening and closing gates several times a day all that honking got on my nerves. If you can stop them with AlfaOBD please let us know but since it is a live function on the Tazer, I always thought it couldn't be switched off and on

It's been long enough, I'm hoping the ability is there to turn it off. If not, my backup plan is a relay on the horn feed wire controlled by a Aux switch.

I'll experiment again - and export the BCM log again. For some reason I seem to recall that setting being in multiple places. Could be my mistake, or something else.
Of course, if a person makes such a change, they may have to wait for it to take - like some of the other settings you change in JSCAN or AlfaOBD.

I Sent a message to AlfaOBD and asked them about it. This was the response:

==========================
Subject: RE: Jeep Gladiator Horn while running

Sorry this feature is not available in the car configuration, looks like a security measure from the manufacturer.
==========================

The Tazer is an active device on the bus, so it can override the horn honking. Apparently, the option isn't available in the computer to turn it on and off.

Unless it can be confirmed that the Jscan option works, it looks like I'll be moving to Plan B, since I'm not going to buy a Tazer just for that option. I have AlfaOBD, but would pay for Jscan to turn it off.

This is the plan, hopefully it will work, just thought it out, haven't looked at the hardware and connections yet. I may need one relay for each horn, depending on how it's wired.

I'm going to take the feed wire for the horn and run it across the Normally Closed contacts of a relay. I'll wire the relay to a Aux Switch so it breaks the contacts when activated. This will keep the horn from honking. If I set the Aux Switch to Ignition only and not to maintain the state at power off, that should reset it so the horn works at each engine start. When I want to disable the horn, I just hit the Aux Switch before getting out and closing the door. I do this a lot when running errands while it's hot in order to keep the cab cool. The horn honking announces it to everyone in the vicinity. It wasn't an issue with the 2020 Overland.

I was going through options last night with JScan and I think I cycled the horn off but didn’t check to see if it actually shut it off. I’ll check later and get back to you on this.

What has worked for me is to close the door until the first click. Just enough for it to catch but not enough to fully close the door. If I fully close it, I get the horn. If I just barely close it enough for the first click so the door can't be opened without the key, but not enough to fully seal it, then I don't get a honk.

Hope that made sense... :blush:

That makes sense, and I can do that. I need to be able to lock the doors and walk away, but don't like the announcement from the truck that I'm walking away with it running.

I'm sure you know this but its there to keep someone from parking it in their garage then getting out with it still running. I read one thread where they went out the next morning and the jeep was still running (carbon monoxide and all).
I guess these are so quiet now you might not hear it running when you get out of the thing.

It is a hassle when you just want to run into the store and want to leave it running.
yup and thats why i wacked the muffler off.

I know this is kind of old, but can I or can I not disable three honks with JSCAN?
