This really depends on the pump. If the pump is already slower even at fully open, then waiting 60 seconds and pumping the rest really slowly works fine, but some pumps are too high flow and cause a ton of foam and can't be pumped slow enough. The one nearest my house has zero chill. No matter how light you are on the handle it's full blast.

And yes, removing the restrictor helps a lot to see the fuel as it creeps up the tube.
Yeah, for sure depends on the pump. Best way to maximize the fill without spilling would be actually seeing the fuel level in the filler next before it overflows. I’ll probably remove that restrictor or whatever it’s called.

I found that I can put about 2 gallons more diesel in once the pump clicks off from the foam if you go really slow. I have also removed the descriminator fill valve and can see the actual fuel level as it comes up the filler neck.

My experience has been the same, but I haven’t removed the restriction at the top of the filler neck. Since I can’t currently see down in there I stopped it at 1.5 gals extra today. I could hear it so I know it was close. Last time at a different station I overflowed it putting in about 2 extra gallons. WHOOPS. 😬

Yep. For some reason. Diesel really foams up in the filler neck of the JT. On my F250 work truck. When it clicks off. I'm looking at the fuel.

I usually refill at 1/4 or so, takes roughly 15 gallons. Never seen the foaming problem on the JT (2022), but then mine still has the flapper in the way so you can't see it. As long as it registers full (it does) I don't get OCD about it. On my old CUCV it does foam back up the neck and only registers 7/8 full so that one I sometimes work a bit at filling. That truck has a less vertical neck, I've usually seen the problem more with flatter fill tubes.

I don't have that adapter either, but then I bought the truck used so I figure it went with the lugnuts that got removed for the keyed nuts that a previous owner put on. Not a big deal, where I live there are a lot of diesels so most stations have the right nozzle for cars on their pumps.

I have my funnel (it was in my bag with the owners manual, still in the plastic) But I read elsewhere that the VW version of the funnel is better to use?
VW Fuel Funnel

I keep my EDT and the funnel in baggies (separated) under the back seat in a sealed container, and yeah after the first time filling up... gloves are also in there.
And regardless of the vehicle I always try and fill up around half or so, most I've put in was 12.

You should. I removed mine at 2k miles. I dont have to use the stupid adapter funnel and I can use the bigger high flow pumps at truck stops. Best mod yet. 10 out of 10 do recommend lol.
I get it, removing the discriminator is handy, but I have accidently grabbed the gasoline nozzle and tried to insert it into my diesel tank and was happy it didn't fit and immediately realized what I had done.
You see, I also drive my wife's gasoline vehicle and often fill it up, so out of habit I accidentally grabbed the wrong nozzle when attempting to fill the diesel gladiator.

So I'm leaving my fuel discriminator in my gladiator and will just use the funnel if needed at a truck stop. It would be a costly mistake if I accidentally put gasoline in it because I wasn't actively paying attention to it.

I fill both gas and diesel vehicles regularly and appreciate the fact that its there.

Thanks, Tim

I have this and it’s much, much, much better than trying to use the stock open-cone adapter with big-rig nozzles as it actually encloses the entire end of the nozzle. Trying to dribble fuel in from the big rig cannons - with the stock cone you’re almost guaranteed a diesel shower all over yourself If you accidentally trip the high-speed flow (and you will)

Fair point. One option: if you remove the retention tabs for the fill tube insert (the discriminator plus the nubs for the fuel cap) you can keep it in place, but be able to yank it out if needed. There’s an o-ring that makes the actual seal; the tabs are just for retention.
