Ok all,
In have a question for anyone who may have tried this, or has enough knowledge to know if this idea will actually derate the diesel.

Me and a buddy were talking hypotheticals and he has an idea to block off the EGR pipe before it enters the intake.
I know it will throw a code.

But will this code cause the ecodiesel to derate after x number of miles?

That is the question.

I do believe the code will disable the start circuit after x miles, but the guy in the vid below has a workaround for this.

He can remove the blocking plate and clear the code if needed, but would this totally make his truck undrivable?

The guy in this vid says that there is no derate on the ecodiesel, but his truck is a 2016.

Here is the link to the utube vid.

That is the question.

What say y'all?

There may not be a de-rate on the 2016 Ecodiesel, or it may not have ever got hot enough to kick in. The full size pickups don't have the cooling issues that the Gladiator does. The Ecodiesel in the Gladiator is tuned different to compensate. The only way to know for sure is to try it and see what happens. Worst case is it quits, you return it to stock, clear the codes, and have it towed to the dealer if it won't start again.

Willfully removing and/or defeating a federally mandated emissions device and/or component is illegal and in violation of federal law.
Thanks, Ill let him know.

Sorry man, I don’t mean to be an ass it is a disclaimer and a needed one. Openly discussing topics like that on a public forum can put a target on this forum and admin.

I own a medium size printing company.
Relax Francis, it's not like deleting diesels isn't OPENLY discussed on this forum. It's a common subject.

To the OP’s topic- if the exhaust side is open, and blocked at the intake side- the tube is going to fill with carbon. TDI’s block it off at the intake side and tune it out all the time because of the added half hour to pull the egr and re rout the coolant lines. Different motor- but same thing.

“Federally Mandated”

So what are your thoughts on the latest Supreme Court ruling??(June 2024)

I sure hope that many things that were never voted into law, but government agencies allowed to impose fines by means of their interpretations get ripped to pieces. Don’t get me wrong. Some regulation is good- but seems pretty heavy when a nations people no longer have say (vote) in “laws” that come with fines… just who is the EPA… and who allowed them to do what they are doing without vote? ;)

google this one: and open your eyes, because it’s not just about NOAA and the fish counter

Oh no, here goes this thread to either "Admin warning" or "Closed for further discussion" state.

EGR's and direct injection will kill modern ICE motors. Let's enjoy them while we have them.

It was a horrible decision. Striking down the chevron standard will allow federal judges to make decisions on all areas without any expertise. But I guess you don't believe in experts either. Judges will be making decisions on on every regulatory agency instead of people who actually are professionals in that field.

People steal cats all the time and then get them fixed with test pipes.

Can't answer your question, but a 2016 Gen 2 EcoDiesel is not the same as the Gen 3 they used in the JLU and JT.

Sorry I don’t have any answers. The only diesel experience I have is with my tractor. I just wanted to comment on the regulations being imposed. I remember back in the 1970’s we had a woman who was over the Federal DOT. She was focusing on motorcycle safety at one point. Headlights always on, helmet laws, etc. one of her proposals was to actually require manufacturers to install roll bars on bikes. The proposed design looked like a 2 wheel dune buggy.

The derate on the 2014 - 2019 Gen 2 EcoDiesel is:

Coolant = 245* F
Oil = 270*F

A warning will indicate a little before the actual derate, but the temps above are when the derate occurs.
